Default Why Cant I run audio thru my VST Synth??

Any help Appreciated:
I use to run signals thru a Korg VST of their mono synth (the one with all the patch cables hanging on the front of it..yeah that one).
That was years ago in C-base.
Why cant I do it in Reaper? Any ideas???

Look out for the Youtube video Vocoder in Reaper from Kenny Goia, he explains in details how to do routing signals into a synth plugin.
You don't need to build a vocoder, the routing part is probably the same for your VSTi.

you're talking about the ms20 from the legacy collection?
which version are you using & how do you have it routed?

There are two different plugins in the Korg legacy collection. Use the MS20FX instead of MS20.

ToeJam is correct, you need to use the MS20FX plugin not the MS20 instrument for audio processing.

Quote:
The Korg MS-20FX plugin allows users to route any signal through the internal filters, modulators etc. of the MS-20 software instrument. The MS-20FX is bundled with the MS-20 synthesizer software instrument. It has many uses such as filtering other synthesizer sounds, drum sound sounds and guitar sounds, sound design and more! Big thumbs up to Korg for making this plug available as an insert or send for other sound sources.

But I have done this BEFORE using the MS20. Strange but true!
So now I want to do it again.

In Cubase you have audio and instrument tracks and you can't load a vsti to an audio track so I believe y you are mistaken
You do realise the MS20FX is identical to the MS20 in appearance and features and is part of the same install Why on earth can't you just use that?

I think YOU are correct. It has been a couple of years since I did this "feat of audio engineering". I must be remembering it wrong.
I do recall going thru the Korg synth that looked exactly like the MS20...with the patch cables on its face etc
I loved the filters.

Why dont I just do that? Well..I dont own that Korg software..so I guess I have to go and get it now.
Thank you for the clarrification.

If you own the MS20 then you also own MS20FX. But if not installed then you'll have to rerun the installer.

If you haven't reinstalled or re-authorised this in a long time you may also have a barrel of fun in store moving your account from the old lorguser.net to the new LorgID website.

Lots of MS20 fun to be had natively in Reaper here:

https://github.com/JoepVanlier/JSFX

Specifically check out FM-Filter and Filther, but don't sleep on ANY of these plugins. They're all super featured and powerful.

How about an advanced polyphonic Korg MS-20 with advanced external routing options for guitar, voice whatever.
It has the traditional mono modes as well of course.

https://www.jrrshop.com/cherry-audio-ps-20
Microsoft Edge automatically applied additional discounts so this was around £13, but only at the moment.

Fwiw- The normal $29 price is supposed to be discounted itself, but that appears to be sales BS as I've never seen Cherry Audio put their prices up to the supposed proper retail.

I have Cherry Audio's PS-20, but haven't used it as an effect though.. well, until now. Did a quick test after checking the manual.

It looks like you can do this. BTW, all Cherry Audio plugins have free 30-day, fully-functional demos (with intermittent pink noise), so I'd suggest you try it out first.

Anyways, looks like you need two tracks - one with your audio, the other with the PS-20 FX plugin on it. You route the audio track into the sidechain of the PS-20 FX track (so route audio 1/2 -> 3/4). Then just turn off the master send on the audio track so you don't hear it through the master. Play notes on the PS-20 FX track, and voila. I'm sure you can do it with 1 track too, but I'd personally want to separate the audio from the midi info.

Also, I'm sure there's a little more to it than that to make it do what you're wanting it to do, but that hopefully should get you started. Again... free demo, so try that out to see if it will do what you want.

The middle, right side of the UI shows your External Signal Processor / Sidechain stuff.
