Default Fade In / Fade Outs Not Working?

Greetings all..

Well, after years of trying I've made an early New Years resolution. This time I'm going to stick with Reaper and actually learn it. Yes, this time I'm going to run with it for the long haul. No more running back to Cakewalk every time I get frustrated with Reaper.

That being said, I've run into a strange situation tonight. I'm working on a song and so far I have used 3 Kontakt instruments. I'm using key switches for all three of them. I want one of those instruments to fade in and then fade out. I'm dragging the front and back corner to where I want the fade ins and outs and everything looks great. Until I play back. They don't fade in and out even though it is showing that it should be doing it on the track. Not sure what I have to do to get it working so I figured I should come by and run it by the experts here on the forum.

Thanks in advance... very much appreciated.

If you're trying to fade a MIDI item, be aware that what that does (per a post by someone much smarter than me elsewhere) is fade velocity. So, having said that, not every VSTi is velocity sensitive... some are, but have to be set up to be velocity sensitive. So, make sure that your Kontakt instruments are set to be velocity sensitive.

For fading in and out, I always just use a volume envelope (i.e. track volume) which affects the volume of the processed audio signal vs affecting the MIDI that is sent to Kontakt, which any VSTi can ignore if isn't velocity sensitive. There might also be some other MIDI CC that you can use that Kontakt will interpret as volume control.

Hope that helps.
