Default External routing in Reaper

Hi,

I have a PreSonus Studio 1810c, a hardware compressor and Reaper. The master output from Reaper is 1/2 out on the PreSonus Studio 1810c.

I am trying to set up Reaper so that I can send a standard stereo track (i.e. a completed song) out of Reaper via output 3/4 on the
PreSonus Studio 1810c, over to the hardware compressor, then back in to input 5/6 on the PreSonus Studio 1810c, then back to Reaper
so I can record the result.

I think it's to do with how routing is setup in Reaper, but I can't seen to find a way to set this up that works. Is there a simple way
to do this? Maybe a step by step guide?

Photo of what I mean is attached.

Thanks guys!

you can use the ReaInsert plugin to do this on a track, or you can use two tracks (one for send & one for receive).
Your description sounds like you are almost there. What isn't working?

Have your stereo mix track set to send on chs 3 & 4 (via a hardware output). Untick master / parent send.
Set your receiving track to inputs 5 & 6, record as normal.

or put ReaInsert on your stereo track and set up the ins & outs accordingly (in the boxes in the plugin GUI)
There is probably a tutorial for ReaInsert somewhere.

You may want to do a loopback test beforehand if there are phase / allignment issues etc. (and ping correctly - with ext fx bypassed? - if using ReaInsert)

im guessing here..

turn off master send on the track you want to send out
create a hardware-out on the same track(inside routingbox) 3+4
(and turn off any master sends that connect to that track)

create a dummy track for the return track, Arm the dummy track bring your stereo input through 5+6 back in

just make sure 3+4, is isolated to avoid feedback, and make sure 5+6 is not coming through anywhere else

Thanks guys

What 7enz said pretty much sums up what i am trying to achieve and the issues i am having.

Things like:
"just make sure 3+4, is isolated to avoid feedback,"
- yes I have this issue. somthing to do with the master sends?

"and make sure 5+6 is not coming through anywhere else"
- again i seem to be having this type of issue and trouble isolating and making sure
correct audio goes in and out of the correct ports/tracks etc

I'm sure its the routing within Reaper.

check that your 5+6 is NOT part of the "Audio out" pairs in the Audio preferences.
The incoming of 5+6 should in theory should be mixed into 1+2 on return

you could perhaps change the monitoring
im sorta guessing.... as ive never routed anything to outboard gear and then back in

I presume your presonus has a software mixer. You need to check that it’s sending the
signal where you want as well.

Yea the presonus does have it's own mixer which is a bit confusing, but i think the issue is the routing in Reaper.
