Default Converting drum maps.

Hello everyone, it's my first post here!
I used Cubase for a couple of years but now I'm trying to migrate to Reaper with my band.
My biggest concern is about the midi editor paired with Addictive Drums.
Quickly:
I used to write drums in GM-MAP in Cubase and sorting instruments with drag and drop, since the default GM-MAP sorting is too much confusing for my uses (example: first note is kick, second is snare, third HH, and so on).
In Reaper I can't do this, so I prefeer to write drums with the "standard AD" map pattern, which is more likely for me.
Now the question is : there's a way to convert GM MAPS to Standard AD Maps without exporting midis and then using external softwares like MidiFileMapper?

Thank you all

there is, but let's be really clear first:

when we talk of 'drum maps' im reaper, we often mean the text file that you can load into the midi editor that shows the drum names on the piano keys... you can find more about that in the user guide... and also you can dl some for AD drums from the reaper stash.

It is also pretty easy to tweak those names to your own liking.

But I think you are talking about something else... like you have some GM midi files for drums but you want those to trigger AD drums properly instead... right?

There is a plugin that comes with reaper, called JS: IX/MIDI_KeyMap
You create and load a text file into that... the text file tell is how to re-map whatever it is fed to whatever you have written in the text file.

for example, you can tell it to change midi note 36 to 35, or whatever...

Here is a short example of the start of that text file:
Quote:
//Key Mapping File. Change the number at the beginning of the line to set the output note.
//Octave 0
0 (0) C
1 (1) C#
2 (2) D
3 (3) Eb
4 (4) E
5 (5) F
6 (6) F#
7 (7) G
8 (8) G#
9 (9) A
10 (10) Bb
11 (11) B
The example is just the first octave but the one you will work with has them all...

The file you want is 00 - Default Mapping.txt, it's the template to start with.
[I may have renamed mine, but look for Default Mapping.txt]

Do a save as of that and then alter that copy.

Then you load your text file into that plugin, on the midi track that sends to AD...

Hopi, that's awesome, I will try it right now!
Can I ask you another question?
I have an 8 tracks project with the drums midi for reharsal purposes; since the tracks are full of tempo variations I was wondering if I can make less visible those tempo markers...
here you can see what I mean : https://i.imgur.com/s72bT.png

yeah that is hard to look at ain't it?

there is a setting that hides them behind the media items but I'm not finding where the hell it is right now... I do have mine set that way...

hopefully I'll find it soon or someone else will chime in first.

Going by memory, but I think that setting is in the grid dialog. Right click the grid button.

Now it's better

I theme the tempo marker text to be nearly invisible on the timeline.

My markers and regions are LOUD though. lit up like Christmas.

Can we make more than one mapping?
I have a TD3 I want to input drum notes to map and a Roland Handsonic hd15 I want to map.
What is the location of the 00 - Default Mapping.txt?

Thanks

you can make as many re-mapping files as you want... like a buzzillion... they are just text files.

you can only load one per instance of the IX plugin, but that is of course what you'd want...

you can have other intances, with other maps on other midi tracks and send that midi wherever...

not totally sure where that file is on your install... I have a folder I made in the Data folder called Drum Maps snd then a sub folder there called Re-Mapping files....

look around in your install... you'll find it I'm sure

PS... I likely should mention that if you run the above re-map on say a GM midi drum file, so it's now mapped to an AD drum map, ...you can [if all is working nicely] send the midi output of that track to another new track, and there record that as a midi file.

Then you can cntrl alt drag that resuliting midi file to a folder on your HD and rename it. Then you will have the midi file as an AD midi file... right? and you can add that to your user midi files for AD.

Same concept for SD2 or whatever, but of course with different mappings.

you see?

However, you 'do' realize that Midi File Mapper, a free tool, can also do this rather nicely and fast too. It has a few re-mapping files, and you can write your own as well, but they are in the xml format.

It is here:
