Default just want to record a cymbal crash to a reaper track

i know this is real simple and i should be able to do it. i think i'm running in to a settings config issue. in the RealDrums track that i'm using, the crash really sucks - whenever i hit the crash in easy drummer, it sounds great. what i'd like to do is record 1 crash onto an empty reaper track and use it in place of the lame crash sound that i now have.

whenever i have ez drummer open and click the crash cym, i can see input sound meters jump but it won't record. should i be on asio ? not sure what my input and output settings should be

any help app

You will need to Record the audio output from the EZDrummer track:
Right-click on the RecArm button and select Record Output ...

couldn't you just drag a sample .wav to a new track and place it where you want?
