Show/hide MIDI editor?
Hi-
Is it possible to just show/hide the MIDI Editor in R4? I've tried docking it, but then all of the docked windows get toggled on/off when I press "D". Barring that, is there any way to have it not stay on top all the time? The pin setting doesn't make a difference.
I have REAPER stretched across 2 monitors most of the time, with the ME sitting on the right. If I close it and do something else in the arrange view, I have to select the item(s) I was working on again before I bring up the ME again. I'd like a way to get the ME out of the way but for its last contents to persist.
My setting is "Open selected items in the last focused MIDI editor, preserve existing editor contents".
Thanks-
-Susan

I don't think there is but I would REALLY love there to be one!
I use an un-docked MIDI editor and it's impossible to toggle between it and the arrange window.

I know that if you have a midi item selected you can hit ctrl alt e and it will pop up the midi editor for the item. But you have to have a midi item already selected.

I thought maybe there was a way to do this in R4, but AFAICT you can't show/hide individual docker windows yet, so even if I put it in its own dedicated docker, that wouldn't solve the problem.
I guess I could make it an FR now, since the basic issue pre-dates R4, but then should the discussion be limited to what's already in R3 (eg. no multiple dockers)? Or is it okay to post FRs for v.4 before it's officially released? I didn't think it was yet. I suppose I could make it just a simple "Show/Hide (undocked) MIDI Editor window(s)" request.
I'd be surprised if there isn't one already (maybe I even posted it myself!), since this has bugged me for a long time. It's one of the things that makes MIDI editing awkward (for me), since it's so easy to lose what I was working on if I just want to get the darned window out of the way for a bit.
Thanks-
-Susan

+1 for a show/hide undocked MIDI Editor action, maybe even as an SWS extension.

I did a search in the FR forum and didn't find this, but I suppose it could have been included in another ME request.
There's no option for R4 yet, but since the same problem is in the latest R3, I can go ahead and put it there.
So for now, would everyone be happy with just an action to Show/hide undocked MIDI Editor(s)?
Thanks-
-Susan

Go for it Susan, anything to help navigate to/from the ME would be great.

Okay, how about this:
FR: Action to Show/hide undocked MIDI editor(s)
There's currently no way to hide the ME completely without closing it. While you can dock it and hide/unhide the docker, that's not an ideal solution for all situations.
This FR is for an action to Show/hide undocked MIDI editor(s). It would allow us to switch between a full view of the arrange pane or whatever else we're working in, and what we're working on in the ME, without closing it and losing its contents.
---------
Any additions, corrections before I make it official?

Thanks Susan, I guess that will have to work for now.
Personally I think this whole concept of separate dockers is crazy as implemented and quite complicated. I'm more familiar with just dragging a window or toolbars to a dock area, wherever that may be and if the windows dockable it docks. Viewing or hiding the window does exactly that but shows it docked or not as it was. Can't see how it was easier to deviate from what is practically a windows standard.

Okay, but what should I link to as a discussion thread? Not this one, since it's in the Pre-Release forum.
Should I just start a new thread in the FR forum and not mention this one ?
-Susan
BTW, I agree about the separate dockers as implemented, Amazed. I was surprised with all that going on that I still couldn't just hide the ME!

Given that navigating the ME in v3 is such an annoying workflow killer, I never paid much attention to this. With all the great improvements in v4, this is such an absolute no-brainer!

Got my vote.
Consider adding this to the FR.
Open the ME without a clicking on a existing MIDi item and let us create the the initial MIDI item inside the ME.
This would allow a pure ME work flow.

Only 6 votes so far, but I have faith! Please spread the word -- I'm sure lots of folks would use this.
@jpettit: I agree that's the way to go, but I think I'll leave the FR focused on just this one action now for simplicity's sake.
Thanks!

It would be bad form to post this in the Feature Request forum too, right? I only started it here because I thought maybe I was missing something in R4.
What do you guys think? (Mods?) I want the folks who don't read the Pre-Release stuff to know about it. Do most people check the FRs anyway?
Thanks-

Hi Tod-
Yes, it's already an official FR (45 votes last I checked!). I meant should I post a link to it in the "Feature Requests" forum, which is where they usually start. Some people don't check this (Pre-Release Discussion) forum often, if at all.
-Susan
Wait -- does that mean you haven't voted for it yet?

if anyone is reading this, I found the following work around
Open your midi editor and place to your liking.
Save a screenset with Tool Window Positions checked.
Add a hot key it will function like a SHOW/HIDE toggle.
I believe for this to work you need to radio button One MIDI editor per Project under Preferences -> MIDI Editor ->
