About the installer ... (DONE)
i wish there would be a registry entry, so that the installer remembers the last checked options for the install.
for every update i uncheck the start menu and desktop shortcuts. yah...not important i know. but i'm getting lazy during these hot summer days
DONE (1.872)

actually i think this should be possible with the current nullsoft installer. maybe justin just doesn't want to write anything to the registry?

I remember Brennan asking about this re always needing to untick demo if you didn't want it! While it's great for first-time users, I'm another one that would love installer settings remembered. Maybe in AppData rather than Registry?

+1 for anywhere you want to put it. Anywhere.
It can also be stored in a simple text file in the program directory so it follows the program to the usb key.

+1 for a small text file in the Reaper directory as Lawrence says.

Indeed!!!!!!!
I think something along the lines of what Lawrence suggests would be far better.
I think this will be important for retaining the USB key portability element of reaper . . . especially in the earlier stages of reaper's taking over the pro audio world.
Anybody I know who has a serious DAW for professional use on a PC has either a dual boot system or a dedicated DAW computer, with carefully tweaked and streamlined OS and software setups (and usually not connected to the Internet).
Most people I know that are running PC-based studios on any kind of commercial level are going to be EXTREMELY hesitant to allow the installation of software with which they are not familiar on their DAWs.
I like the idea that musicians can use reaper in their home studios, and then take reaper on a USB key and use it in any commercial studio with a PC (and soon with Macs as well, I would assume) to record and/or mix tracks using reaper using whatever hardware (and perhaps plugins), not to mention more ideal acoustics environments, they have at a given studio -- and without having to install anything to the studio's computer(s).
I think that feature alone could help reaper to gain more ubiquitous use in home studios and commercial studios alike.
I should think this kind of thing would be a far better setup for most musicians than having to put up with the limitations of Pro Tools LE, etc.

-> now install reaper with the remembered options again
=> Reaper removes my created icon!? makes no sense and shouldn't happen!
Looks like it's the remaining issue i've already reported for version 0.998 here: http://www.cockos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1823
