Default Shortcut to "move to next grid" (DONE)

Hi.
This is something i had wished to see implemented in Reaper's arsenal of features and shortcuts.
It doesn't look that much, but can be very handy to paste clips on a grid without the need of the mouse.
If you have to paste a non stretched clip, which lenght is not exactly 4 bars long (for example), you will have to paste it, then take the mouse to put your cursor on the next grid. Such a shortcut could make you able to do all this using only the keyboard (for example : paste [ctrl+V], then shift the cursor to next gridline [for example [ctrl+right arrow]).
Does it makes sense ? or am i the only one wiching that ?

DONE (2.107)

.. it is very handy for example, to create rythm parts using one shot sample, if you have to repeat the same sample regularly on each 1/8 bar, like in the example below :
Without such a shortcut, you always have to take the mouse to go to next gridline. With the keyboard shortcut, you only do [ctrl+V] then [ctrl+right arrow] :

+1, along with the already requested shortcut for "Jump to Loop Selection Start/End".

Default marquee selection (another way)

there is something else that i miss and that would take care of your problem to: marquee selection (timeline selection on selected tracks only). in your example, you would not select the object but position 06.01.00 to 06.02.00 on the track. then you could happily paste away, with no need for another shortcut.

my favourite implementation would be to have the option to have a shortcut to switch between object selection and marquee selection and a combined mode that would give you object selection when you click in the lower half of an object and marquee selection when you click in the upper half.

bumping, as Dandruff has made here (http://www.cockos.com/forum/showthre...t34467)several suggestions for keyboard shortcuts related to the midi editor, and that this one could improve the worflow when working with one-shot audio clips.

Bump for a very useful feature, but to recap we want:

'Move cursor to next gridline" / 'move cursor to previous gridline'

This makes it configurable based on your zoom settings, eg one bar if you are doing tight editing, or 4/8 bars if you are just navigating.

Justin, if you see this, please code it in, I'm sure you will find it useful too

Hi

IMHO the fast forward and rewind should snap to the grid.

Cheers

Precisely. I would like to be able to step through gridlines, and have the loop selection do the same sort of thing. Great for learning parts of songs that are mapped to tempo.

Yep - there's configurable actions for both. By default they are assigned to Cntrl + Right Arrow and Cntrl + Left Arrow.

Bump to keep this alive...more people need to think how useful this feature is, to jump along by bars or beats, whatever you have the grid set to.

One simple reason would be to move along 4-8 bars at a time and split your song into sections...a very simple process to make regions after that. Another would be to slice up simple beats and loops.

The possibilities are just endless, and the present forward/rewind behaviour of 6 beats is just illogical...snap to the grid makes many things faster.

So chime in and support it!

but for this we also need the grid-setting displayed always somewhere in the gui (without opening the settings-windows each time)!

ffw and rew "a little bit" should be previous and next grid marker.

The grid marker it snaps to should be zoom dependant. (closer in smaller step)

Also if I could map these to the other mouse buttons on my 5 button mouse.

Maybe that just, when the grid is visible, the "fast forward" shortcut coudl be "move to next grid" ?

...and previous grid line too!

Even moving 4 beats instead of 6 would be more useful than 6. Not that I don't like 6/8, but not all the time.

But snapping to whatever the grid is showing is much more multi-purpose...I wonder why more people don't request this, it's so useful for so many purposes, and I can't really see a downside...

Maybe make it an option for whoever prefers fast forward to move at 6 beats per click? I'd be fine with that.

I think it is quicker to zoom in / out using the [arrows] shortcut, So you will always move to net gridline, but with different settings.

Yes, it seem that it is waht i tried to say :
the next gridline depends on your zoom level. In fact, you'd use both to set up the wanted distance between 2 gridlines.
That is the way it works with Acid, and works very well.

Yeah, the zoom level is adjustable to whatever grid you want, be it beats or bars...seems the easy option to suit everyone.

It's faster with the scrollwheel I reckon

2 more examples of the use of it.

To make a beat out of one shot smaples : just adjust the zoom, and paste/move to next gridline (zoom out at a bar level for cymbs, zoom in to 1/4 beat for hi hats, etc)

... to paste clips that are NOT x bar long exactly.
You musn't duplicate the clip at the end of a clip, but at the beginning of a bar/gridline.

Wow... a 13 month old FR....

I was actually looking for this function the other day and couldn't believe it didn't already exist.....

++1 for 'Move cursor to next gridline" / 'move cursor to previous gridline'

And also ++1 for these other points that were mentioned:

*** ffw and rew "a little bit" should be previous and next grid marker.

*** The grid marker it snaps to should be zoom dependant. (closer in smaller step)

B.U.M.P.!

Simple vanilla previous prev/next grid action, PLEASE!

Is there any reason why this hasn't been added yet? At the risk of sounding like a mighty poo-eater, it seems so trivial to add. At the very least it would be a very useful (and seemingly "core") action, but yet still absent.

Jason, can you add this one to the tracker plz? (whatever the tracker does!?... but it might help get this one in )

This is probably the single thing about the program that keeps me from using it. These are features that I can't live without.

At least make the rewind and forward move by single measures. That would make so much more sense and impove work flow emencely.
