Chris's "Air" and "Energy" are 2 more works of art that bring a zing to much of my content! I love his work.

I've never tried those, but I'll check em out. I also use BussColors and Channel6 a lot. Well since he just released Channel7, I'll have to update my templates.

Yea and I need to get some money to that guy. He's very dedicated, even if I usually have no clue what he's talking about or how his plugins work their voodoo.

Chris Johnson is an artist. I'm an AW patron also. He builds unique, high quality tools.

Edit: but to answer the original question, my secret weapon is lots of practice of the live performance that's going to be recorded. Well, when it's a composed piece. When I'm improvising, it's the opposite. Music is so complicated! Heh.

Yep, yep! Not trying to turn this into an AW thread, but man, his stuff finds it's way into my mixes. His channel stuff, too. Thanks to some on this forum actually.

However, what I'm asking though about the secret weapons are the really crazy plugs that bring serious magic mojo. Kinda like what Dolby C did to recordings back in the old days etc Some of you will know what I'm sayin.

The Air, Energy and latest release "Purest Air" are amazing. But going back to my original comment... There is no Dolby C emulator... and that's not really what I'm looking for... would be cool AF though. The original question is what makes your sh!t kick ass on the master buss? There. I said it! Something with mojo?

Slate VBC is always on now, right from the start. I like to keep it where it's barely doing any compression, but I just love how it makes everything sound a bit more "pro" before I even start the mixing process. Worth the whole iLok bs IMO. Mucho mojo.

I also +1000 on Airwindows!!

Here are a few other favourites....

Audiothing Reels - great lofi tape vibes and built in echo too: https://www.audiothing.net/effects/reels/

Goodhertz Vulf Compressor - slap in the face compression/vinyl emulation: https://www.goodhertz.co/vulf-comp/

Empirical Labs Arousor - desert island comp based somewhat on the Distressor, but with more tweakability: http://www.empiricallabs.com/arousor.html

Nomad Factory Magnetic 2 - highly overlooked tape emulator that's great on the master bus: http://go.nomadfactory.com/products/p897-Magnetic-II/

Gotta stop there before I go on too long.

I am a Techno producer and it add loads of wallop to my master bus. it is probably not designed for that at all. But I just love what it does.

my weapon is that i don't let a lack of fidelity get in the way of progress

i've sampled everything from kitchen utensils to youtube, from 128bit mp3s to scratched vinyl with a bad needle. i'll include these samples on songs that have gone on to get a lot of plays, and get complimented on creating immersive soundscapes.

while this approach might not work in fidelity-driven genres, i struggle to think of what those genres might be. even bluegrass sounds good when it doesn't sound good, if you know what i mean

see Masanobu Fukuoka for more insight, albeit on a different subject

Wacom Cintiq, its assignable side buttons and the two-button pen, and some Reaper customizations specific for that interface.

Reaper is excellent for pen-drawing MIDI.

Another vote for the TDR stuff - Kotelnikov especially never ceases to impress me... I paid for the the GE version, and the more I dig into it, the more I think I could actually do pretty much every compression job I'd ever need with this one compressor (aside from very coloured compression, but that colour could be added separately with other plugins like true iron or a nebula preamp program).
