Default Why do wav.ReaPeaks files get created

Hi.

Playing with drum sounds in the ReaDrums Template, I see that I have managed to create a number of small "wav.ReaPeaks" files in among my drum sample files.

Can anyone tell me what they are, how they got there and if they are of any use to me? Can/should I stop them being created?

Thanks.

Those are the files created to display the waveform(s) on the screen. All DAW's make these little files in one format or another. You can tell Reaper to put them in a folder of your choosing in Preferences.

Thanks.

"You can tell Reaper to put them in a folder of your choosing in Preferences."

I've had a look in Reaper preferences and in the User Guide but can't indentify how to do this. Is it the 'Default Render Path' in the General section? Or perhaps the 'Default Recording Path' under 'Audio/Recording'?

Thanks.

Preferences > Media > check "Store peak caches in alternate path" and then specify where in the box below...
