ELK
-> https://www.mindmusiclabs.com/
They seem to provide hardware (-> https://mindmusiclabs.com/wp-content...tar_33_web.jpg, https://www.mindmusiclabs.com/introd...top-prototype/, https://www.mindmusiclabs.com/powere...urorack-synth/, https://www.mindmusiclabs.com/develo...oard-overview/ ) (and software) for self-contained music (e.g. virtual instrument) applications (similar to the late Muse Receptor, but seemingly no Windows VST support). Could it be viable to run Reaper/Linux (X86 or ARM buld as appropriate) on their stuff ? -Michael Last edited by mschnell; 06-07-2019 at 10:46 AM. |

Interesting!
Dual kernel, multithreading, Yocto based. https://www.yoctoproject.org/ On first sight, I don't see a possibility to run Reaper on it, as it seems to be headless. And it comes with it's own DAW, called Sushi. That seems to be headless too. Confusing. See: https://www.mindmusiclabs.com/daw-like-sushi/ Quote:

In fact I do use Reaper in a headless way all the time with my live keyboard setup,
Of course you need monitor etc for configuration. With Linux (also arm), you supposedly can use stuff like VNC, Remote Desktop, (Remote) X11, etc. for this. Your second quote is one reason why it might make sense to use Reaper on such hardware. -Michael |

I was thinking more like the usual DAW use. Should've known you might use it differently
I'm experimenting with remote control of TotalMix and Reaper. I'd like to put a headless computer in the rack and run everything from a second computer or ipad, next to the analog mixer, a long distance from the recording rack. Everything is working fine, I'm testing a touchscreen right now. Can't eliminate mouse/keyboard yet. Still, interesting. Your input shows me I didn't look at some options. Need to think how this would be useful, as I need a browser...

Regarding remote-controlling Reaper in "DAW Mode" one obvious versatile choice is "CSI". See the "Control Surface" forum. Unfortunately I don't think that Geoff will provide a Linux version soon.
Yet another option is Beyond Reaper/Python. A friend of mine uses this to have some rather complex Programs he wrote (in Python) to completely remote-Control Reaper. -Michael |

Thanks for the suggestions, but I want the client to be as standard as possible. That's why I'm looking at browser control. No install or configuration needed. The idea is to allow anyone with a phone, computer or tablet to control some aspects of a setup.
What we face are visiting techs that don't know our setup. You can set up an X32 in so many ways, that, unless the tech is really into the X32, it becomes incomprehensible. Even if there are several days to familarise the tech with the setup, some are afraid of digital mixers. None are afraid of their own phone... Today we need one of our techs next to the visiting tech. A bit inefficient and boring for our techs. Besides, nobody likes a babysitter. We also have other stuff. AC, projectors, PA, that need to be controlled sometimes. And all of these use a browser for remote control. Besides that, Apple just deprecated Python, Perl... runtimes in macOS. Bummer. You can still install those, of course, but installing software is the one thing I'm trying very hard to avoid.
