Cannot play video in Reaper, problem with VLC?
Hi,
Ive followed this guide (and read every forum post I can find) but nomatter what I try I cannot get videos to play in Reaper. https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=82459 I'm using the latest 64 bit versions of Reaper and VLC and I have installed the latest version of 64bit ffmpeg in UserPlugins directory. Reaper finds the VLC install as below when I check decoder information in video settings... Available decoder information: ========== VLC ========== VLC v3.0.x Loaded from: C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC But is using ffmpeg decoder to try to open a test .mpg file... Length: 50:22.560 Video: 720x576@25.00fps, Aspect=1.00, Decoding format=I420/YV12 Audio: 48000Hz 2ch 32bps Using ffmpeg/libav DLL decoder v58.89.100 Video: mpeg2video (Main), yuv420p(tv, top first), 720x576 [SAR 64:45 DAR 16:9], max. 9100 kb/s Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 256 kb/s Loaded from: C:\Users\Simon\AppData\Roaming\REAPER\UserPlugins\ avcodec-58.dll The audio track loads, but the video is just a black screen. When I remove the default "Video Decoder Priority" from default to "vlc" in video settings the file wont load at all, the media appears as "Offline". Ive tried loading a few different test video types, versions of VLC (including portable versions) but nothing has worked, at best audio but no video. Thanks in advance Windows 10 Reaper 6.11 64bit VLC 3.0.10 64bit ffmpeg 20200528-c0f01ea (64 bit, shared, GPL 3) |

SOLVED: Force RGB in output settings
Turns out it was nothing to do with encoding, I changed the default output to DirectShow EVR - Force RGB and now video plays.
Thanks |

I was getting sound but no video in Reaper as well with a black screen displayed. This solution worked for me too by changing the Output settings on the Video preferences to one of the two Force RGB settings.
