Default Can I Use Rewire To Have Two Songs Open At The Same Time?

I’d like to have two songs open at the same time because I’m working on a collaboration and I’d like to quickly toggle between my updated version and the original song.

Should Rewire allow me to have, in effect, two versions of Reaper open at the same time with one song in the main Reaper program and one in the Rewire slave. I can’t get it to work and I just get strange noises.

This relates to my other post below.

Am I misunderstanding how to use Rewire?

if you just want to open two different projects at the same time, that is easily done. just open two separate instances of reaper. no need to rewire.

Duh, I just tried it and it works.

I'm now feeling very stupid

That's really weird. I'm sure I used to get an error message when I tried to open more than one instance of Reaper.

edit. In fact I'm positive I used to have a problem. I wonder whether installing Vista service pack 1 has caused the change.

edit again: Something has definitely changed. I can now run Itunes, Media Player and Reaper all at the same time. That never used to work. Although I haven't tried it for a while, so I can't be certain the Vista SP1 update has caused the change.

hmm. not sure what would cause the change in behavior.

i've only used Reaper on XP SP2, and it's always worked fine running multiple instances of Reaper and other audio software. but i haven't been using it for long, so maybe it's a newer feature in Reaper?

If you're using ASIO, there are options inside Reaper to control whether it releases control of the sound card when you hit stop/lose focus - this is the best way.

If Reaper is playing happily with all those other apps at the same time, it might mean you're using DirectSound for output or something - this will impact on your latency.

I am using ASIO and I was under the impression that this would cause problems in using other audio apps based on this post I made a long time ago.

http://www.cockos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14918

But now I don't seem to have a problem. It's very strange.

dub3000 I couldn't find the settings you refer to. Are these Reaper settings or are they specific to your sound card?

Thanks, got it now

I notice there's a tick in the box already. This must have been set as a default, because I didn't tick the box.
