Yes. You are correct.
Anything to the left of the yellow
line is not used.
I have actually taken
wave files of samples and
edited them in REAPER and
rendered a new wav file
(sample) to fix those sort
of things.
Or, you can just change the starting
position of the sample by moving
the yellow line (start point) as
in your image.
Sometimes, having a bit of space
(a very small amount of blank space)
at the beginning of a sample, then
tweaking the starting
point (using the yellow line) can
allow the user to create a
certain type of "feel" to the
groove in regards to drum tracks
(Example: kick drum, snare drum, hi-hat samples).
