Default Track Selection Group

Track grouping is missing one feature, imo, and that's the ability to select all tracks in a group by clicking on one of them.

Would be great if Selection Slave and Selection Master were added to the grouping options, thanks.

Hi there,

I hear ya for sure.
But.. if you like, there is a workaround (make sure you have ReaPack installed!) :

- Open Action List and search for the 2 words: group window.
An Action will show up: "View: Show track grouping matrix window"

When you run this Action, you get the Track Grouping Window, where you can assign Tracks to Group numbers.
To assign a Track to a Group number, just click on the little black square to the very right of the number of that Track, so the square becomes white.
Tracks with a white square means they are grouped to a certain group number.

- In Mouse Modifiers, context Track Control Panel - Double click, you have to assign this action to one of the modifiers:
Script: me2beats_Select all tracks in selected track groups.lua

So let's say you assigned some Tracks to the same Track Group number in the Track Grouping Matrix Window.
And let's say you assign the mentioned me2beats action to SHIFT double click a Track in TCP.

That means that when you hold down SHIFT while double clicking a Track, all Tracks associated to the same Track Group will be selected.

I very hope you understand abit of my explanation ..

@vanhaze Thanks, yea I actually find it much easier to do grouping with the "set track grouping parameters" window, as that matrix just gives be a headache to look at. 'SWS set selected tracks to first unused group' is the simplest approach, if one has already set up defaults in the group parameters window.

But I actually don't have that script, despite being up to date with ReaPack...That's the way I would have done it if I had had that action. Guess I need to search for that script.

"SWS set selected tracks to first unused group" is not part of ReaPack, it's part of
the (free) SWS extensions for Reaper.

http://www.sws-extension.org/

My guess is you havent installed this yet ?

Lol, how would I have mentioning an sws action by name if I didn't have it installed? Of course I have sws installed, since years ago. ReaPack is installed as well, but that script you mention doesn't seem to be a part of it.

Sorry we're not communicating clearly, I was just mentioning that the matrix is not, in my opinion, the simplest approach to setting up track grouping.

But thanks for the tip. I'll find that script and use it.

First you mention the name of an SWS script and then second you say you don't have that script in your Action List.
Maybe you came across that sws action name here in the forums while looking for track group related actions, nah ?!

Anyways, very odd that you don't have that SWS script in your action list (i assume you updated SWS to latest available version).

I do have it in my Action List, but i am on mac.

sws doesn't include any scripts. what are you talking about? i don't have that me2beets script and both sws and ReaPack are up to date.

Sorry for the miscommunication on my side.
So i try again, after my 10th cupacoffee :

ReaPack > import repositories.
Paste in this URL:
https://github.com/me2beats/reapack/...ster/index.xml

Then hit ok.
Let it do it's thing for a few seconds.
Then, in Action List ,do a search again for the me2beats script i mentioned.

Righty,

He made an awesome lot of very useful scripts for Reaper, he's a talented scripter:

https://github.com/me2beats

I actually asked him personally in the past to create some scripts for me that i needed, for a donation per script.
Really awesome guy.

maybe you would like also my Track Inspector VIP script. It has Track Tags feature. To classify tracks with tags, and show/hide them, solo/mute them and Select them by tags. So you could create specific tags for the tracks in your groups if you want.

+1 Selection should definitely be a track grouping column imo. Seems an oversight not to include this capability in Reaper, and it's not possible to create manually without a defer.
