Default Vacuumsound ADT flange?

I think this plugin is as good as the Waves version, but it's not quite as versatile, as far as I can tell.

I wonder if anyone's tried to do a proper tape flange effect with it? I'm not sure how I'd do that with the effect as it is.

I don't think it'll really work - apart from anything else, the minimum delay time is a bit long?

Try mda ThruZero (if you want that total thru zero cancellation thing)

Meldas MFlanger is pretty full featured and sounds great.

If it has to be "tape" You might end up having to pay - toneboosters reelbus (tape sim) does a good flange.

Give ReaDave's solution a try:

If the deep null of the ThruZero is a problem - an easy fix is to precede it with splitter and do a bit of plugin pin jiggery-pokery so that it only works on (say) > 200Hz

So you'd go:
3 band splitter (xover 1 @ 200Hz, xover 2 @ 22kHz)
mda ThruZero (in/out on 3/4)
3 band joiner

Alternatively, there's fun to be had by duplicating a track and messing around w/ stretch markers.

Indeed, that's why it took me so long to try it. But it's an excellent introduction to Reaper routing.

So how does it sound to you, compared to the alternatives?

Tonebooster's Reelbus tape simulator does a very good tape flanger.

Hmm, it's been awhile, but I found it convincing. I used it as a send, like reverb. It was plug 'n play as I recall.

I think all of them require a clean mix — no mud. The best way to flange is analogue tape, to my mind. I'm talking the Hendrix "Are You Experienced" effect.

Someone above mentioned stretching a copy of the track like you would the second tape machine. This might be the closest process-wise.

I am that someone :-)

It's been a while, but as I remember:
dupe the item.
Uncheck the copy's item properties "preserve pitch.."
Insert some stretch markers - do some *tiny* stretches.

Obv, you can do stretches on both copies alternately for a fairly authentic effect. But stretching / squeezing one copy works well.

It can be a pain getting them synch-ed up again. Just like in the real world. (Altho' a properly synched tape machine should chase and lock again without too much operator input? Sadly, that won't happen here.)

So probably best after a flange-y section to do an edit (a split) and start afresh - or mute out the duplicate and make whatever level adjustment required.

Have fun.
