Parameter modulation/MIDI link options for Input FX
REAPER has plenty of options of parameter modulation/MIDI link for FX. I would like to request for the same options to be available for Input FX, which currently has MIDI/OSC learn only.
Some background info:
I often record incoming audio processed via plugins with some of the parameters being controlled in realtime. In order to use the parameter modulation/MIDI link options, I use a normal FX chain instead of Input FX and record the output of the track. I also put the track in another folder track to separate it from the plugins that I don’t want to print, so I can tweak them later.
The workaround above works, but it increases the track count. and I really wish there were those options available for Input FX in the first place, which will simplify the project and would give Input FX its full potential.
I also tried ReaLearn to achieve the same thing, but stopped using it after several crashes seemingly caused by the plugin.

As there is no Midi at the location of an (audio) input Effect, it would need to fetch messages from a Reaper Midi bus.

Good point. Maybe we could use the MIDI signals routed to the track?

Seemingly not with input effects.
If you really need to, as a workaround, you can use the MidiToReaControlPath VST plugin to route certain Midi messages from some track into the guts of Reaper, and then you can use "Learn" with your input effect to get hold of them.

Maybe I'm being stupid here, but if the input FX can already be midi learned with midi /osc isn't it just a matter of extending the functionality? Because you couldn't midi learn an input fx if midi wasn't getting to it somehow.
Ok, now someone explain I'm stupid. It's ok, I can take it lol.

The Source of "Learn" is the Reaper Control Path, while the FR is about using Midi messages from a track. ("parameter modulation/MIDI link")

Maybe it’s worth mentioning that Parameter modulation/MIDI link is not only about regular MIDI CC, but also audio signal control, LFO, modulating other modulators, and 14-bit CC. The audio signal control would interest some of those who want to integrate their modular synths, maybe in combination with ReaRack3.
As for using MIDI (and audio) signals routed from other tracks, I don’t know how technically difficult it is, but I suppose that’s for the devs to determine whether it can be implemented or not...

Very late and maybe not even relevant for you, but today I learned that you can set up your modulations on an FX plugin, then simply cut and paste it into the input FX section. I've only tried with ReaEQ so far but there are surely others that will work.

Other than copy-pasting you can also save an fx chain with parameter modulation applied and it'll carry over to input fx if you load it there.
It's weird that it works like this, yet you can't do it directly. I've been using this trick for midi stuff and had assumed it wouldn't work for audio fx, so it's good to hear you've got it working for ReaEQ.

Seems like worth being discussed in the "Nitpicks" forum...
