The pulse jack module is optional but as far as I know you need it to play sound in your browser like you would in windows. I don't think it comes into play when you are recording.

As for the rt kernel, others do say that it brings the latency way down. I'm not sure there is a difference with modern kernels but I'm willing to be corrected. Having said that, you can try different kernels later. I would recommend that you don't use the newest one, maybe try the next one down the list.

Great

well I think we are ready to roll.
right click on your reaper install file, run in wine.
the first wine app takes a little longer while it configures things

you install anything else the same way, by right clicking run with wine.
If you have drop in vsts, meaning just the dll, I better show you where your c drive is.

Go to your home directory. In your file manager there will be an option to show hidden files

What desktop are you using?

in the terminal type

Code:
winecfg
here's where you can change settings etc..

Code:
winetricks
allows to to do other cool things

Now you might be tempted to update wine

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine1.8 winetricks
you could try upgrading to wine staging in ubuntu I wouldn't because it does stupid things to wineasio. No probs like this in Arch

Ok

While this laptop was on Win7, it was too slow and dragging to open most applications, nearly unusable. Now to have this 10 year old laptop resuscitated running Reaper 64, the 18i20 nice and smooth on Linux is marvelous! That's a real computer recycling

Hope others get the same benefit from this thread.

Sweet Karma to u my brother.

Thank you for ur time.

Yep, just trying to help. I mean, if the first 14,137,2123,348 threads on this topic didn't help, surely this one will.

Short answer: Linux sucks on the desktop. Use a real desktop for desktop apps.

Long answer: Linux suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks on the desktop....

I dual-boot into Linux and reading this thread was fascinating! Great job to Garrick for his insight and patience! I'm tempted to do the same thing.

You suck!!!! Linux is a real Operating system.
Way better than any version of wind blows.
It may suck for you, since you are an armature.
People are really ignorant.

Hi I just installed Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon.

I remember when I used to use the older version on Linux we had to install the low latency kernel is this still valid?

Your input / help would be appreciated.

This ought to be a sticky thread.

The only place I've ever seen Linux configuration/setup for Reaper in a step by step coherent list.
