Default Can you have a project completely on an SD card?

Record straight to and mix from an SD card?

Maybe not the Reaper DAW, though.

Why not? It is possible. Use portable version for this purpose.

Is there a minimum quality an SD card should be for speed purposes?

I've just tried it with my C6 class SDHC card and it seems it works just fine! But I recommend you to use C10+ class.

I recorded an entire CD of drum/bass tracks on one. The main thing you need to watch out for is if it starts getting low on space 75%+ full, it may start acting weird when hitting record and stuttering.

This is called "ware leveling". It delays/prevents the write access to the media by an unpredictable time.

You need to be very aware, as plugging out (i.e. powering off) the media during this process might destroy it and everything recorded on it.
