Excellent. Its much easier to see active takes while having mute state color of tracks completely shut off.
Thanks

Ya, when track/item is muted the active take is lighter colored like it used to be. THANK YOU!

re: Drag and Drop
During the drag, can you enable "without snap" functionality?
We are restricted to dragging "to the grid" and this is especially problematic when trying to drag samples in between other samples without overlapping them, or worse - replacing them unintentionally.
Holding Shift during the drag currently does nothing, when you'd expect it to enable "without snap". When you drag an Item in Arrange View for example, it snaps to grid but if you hold Shift while dragging it switches to "without snap" during the drag process. This exact behaviour is what would be consistent here.
Thank you.

"+ Drag and drop: improve insert-track tooltip [t=266091]"
Actually, it's very hard to see the length and impossible to see the wave of the item droped.
Aesthetically, it's not nice. And unnecessarily complicated with painful text...
It's not a better system?
My proposition: This creates a temporary tiny track with uni color. When we release the item on this track, it creates a normal track.
Or this (I prefer the previous exemple because there is no item overlap):

Is there anything you'd like us to test for this one?

Not really, it should just quietly fix any undo points on obscure actions that would otherwise have gone unnoticed... I guess the real thing is if any scripts function differently now than in 6.56, that would be good to know. but in general it should just work

When a track is created after a drag&drop from media explorer, it would be nice to have this option: the new track has the same name the droped item (exactly like a new track is created with ReaSampler).

Can you do anything with ffmpeg to get it to sync ? as it don't drop out.

Best thing to do is to convert them to .wav on import.

My best guess is that there is something about this particular set of .wma files that causes the Windows 10 version of Windows Media Foundation decoder to hang intermittently and unpredictably. We can't get it to hang at all in Windows 11, or (so far) with other media.

The trouble is most Biab users have wma about 256GB wma so converting them is a massive undertaking.
This was the reaper wma project
Style_Change_4-4_3-4.rar
and this is an Adobe Audition session file for it
Style Change 4-4 3-4 44.1 16bit.sesx
Audition plays the wma fine and in sync, so I don't know what codec it's using.
As mentioned the ffmpeg don't drop out but it's out of sync so I don't know if that's fixable.
https://helpx.adobe.com/audition/usi...e-formats.html
VLC is closer to sync

The whole idea of this is so it plays the Biab source files direct without creating more files.
Reaper gets the track data from Biab so rather than Biab having to render to wav then import into Reaper, Reaper will do it instantly giving more editing control of the content.
The main problem users have with Biab Plugin is the waiting times for rendering and build up of massive amount of wav files, this bypasses all that and gives the tracks instantly.
So it's just importing this data direct:
Code:
Riff # Summary RiffHasData SourceWAVFileName SourceWAVFileTempo SourceBarNumber SourceBeatNumber SourceTimeSig SourceStartTimePPQ1200 *SourceBar *SourceTick(120) SourceTickOffsetPPQ1200 SourceEndTimePPQ1200 *Tick Duration120(calc) *Beats Duration (calc) SourceEndRiffStretchAmountPPQ1200 SourceEndRiffTransitionAmountPPQ1200 DestinationStartTimePPQ1200 *Chord *Bar Destination *Beat Destination *Tick Destination120 TranspositionSemitonesRequired ThisRiffIsaPush1200 ThisRiffNumber RiffNoneHoldShot RiffHoldsLibraryNumber ThisIsaPush ThisisDrums RiffdbOffset RiffSoloistNumber RiffThisRiffStartShouldBeMergedWithEndOfPreviousOne RiffIsUnknownMonoStereo RiffIndexFromMultipleRT RiffMultipleRealTracksNumber AnyLoopActive AnyLoopRestartLoopWhenWavEnds AnyLoopBaseTempo AnyLoopNumberOfBeats AnyLoopTransposeAmount AnyLoopStretchTempo AnyLoopTranspose AnyLoopOriginalKeyMod ChordLoopActive ForceUsePlusMinusRealtracks RiffPanning RiffInstructionFutureBytes

Are all of the files in your project the original BIAB files (the metadata says they were created in Audition), or have they been processed or modified?
We know for sure that some of the files you provided contain inconsistent data, which causes different problems with different decoders. It may be the case that it's only one of the files in your sample project that is causing the different decoders to fail in different ways. The ROCKTEXAS^_120_STYLE.wma file in particular definitely has a very bad keyframe index, some keyframes point to file position over 500ms later than the keyframe indexed time.
FWIW as Justin mentioned, WMF on Windows 11 does seem to handle these files completely correctly.

These files go right back to 2008 when they went from midi to audio and there are over 3000 instruments and over 700 drums.
Biab goes right back to 1990 they are still using Delphi so now they have a Mac version they spend half the year programming that then the next half programming the Win version. The front end is way behind compared to modern DAW's, it's just the content is where it shines.
I have spent over 10 years over there beta testing giving development ideas like the Biab vst version to get them out of the 1990's but it damn near killed me. I tried to get them to have the Biab vst play the files direct rather than how it does now calls on the main app to generate the files into ram then render down to wav then send to the Biab vst, this is all frustrating and time wasting for users, with reaper it's instant.
Thank God for reaper and scripting !
If there is some way to sandbox it so reaper don't freeze up on the wmf codec dropout and it can be initialized or be able to at least save the project ?
If not I supposed I could just retire from it all and take up rug hooking.

I left both Audition and Reaper loop playing, Audition kept playing but Reaper all the tracks but 1 dropped out, then it dropped out also.

I don't suppose there is any chance you have access to a Windows 11 machine?

I would have to install it in VirtualBox to try it.
I think you would still have a lot of users on Win10 restricted by the hardware requirements for Win11.
Maybe there's system files that can be copied from 11 to 10 to fix it.

What codec is freac using ?
https://www.freac.org/downloads-mainmenu-33
as it encodes and decodes wma correctly.
I had to use that originally as reaper was not encoding the wma to mp3 correctly.
This dropped out with just 2 tracks.

freac I believe is using WMF. We're still looking at this issue, but afaict one-time conversion or playback of a single wma files (in other words, what something like freac does) is working fine in REAPER too.
The problem occurs when playing back multiple files, or multiple instances of the same file, and seeking. Your sample project, with many slices of different copies of .wma files, is seeking very frequently when playing back, because every time playback hits a new media item, it has to seek to the start offset position in the source media.
Is your audition test project similar to your REAPER test project, or is it looping a single file?

I put a post for others with Win10 to try.
I'm just trying now on an old Win7 laptop and it has not dropped out but with wmf it has a glitch where it stops then starts but the tracks are still all outputting after it starts again, so that could be the issue.
I tried it with vlc and it plays fine without the any glitches stopping and starting on the Win7 laptop.

The Audition session is the same sections as reaper as I used AATranslator and plays fine and in sync.

In your windows 11 virtualbox install, can you go to C:\Windows\System32\mfplat.dll, right-click to show properties, go to the details tab. and report the file version?

Thanks MusoBob, hopefully today's build puts this issue to rest -- but for our reference, what CPU is your system?
