Can't make it hang that way, sorry. What's the REAPER version? Operating system?

Does that also happen when you try that in a fresh "portable" style install or reset REAPER to factory defaults?

with a portable install I do not get a crash. I can also drag-and-drop files into REAPER arranger.

reinstalling on top of my old install, I still do get a crash. I actually cannot drag-and-drop in my install.

That probably means the problem lies in your configuration files.

Reinstalling on top doesn't fix problems in configuration files since it's supposed to leave them alone.

The distance between items/tracks seems to affect this:
- selecting items in track 1 and 13 doesn't crash
- selecting items in track 1 and 14 -> hangs/crashes

It seems like it hangs when "zoom/scroll to selected media items when mirroring selected" -option is selected in project bay and items/tracks don't "fit" on arrange view.

Thank you! That's the needed condition to trigger the freeze/hang, and the reason why a clean reaper.ini doesn't do that.

going to bump this...

are there any features in REAPER that are currently broken to the point that it causes a crash without fail?

It seems like this one has been forgotten, because it's not like REAPER to have broken features.
