Default Free Video Tutorials from The (unofficial) REAPER Blog

[please sticky this post]

Hey this is Jon from The REAPER Blog at REAPERBLOG.NET

As of this writing there are 65 tutorial videos in this Youtube playlist that I have made. The most recent 20 or so were even edited in REAPER 5.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...E3D1858432F63B

These videos cover topics ranging from mixing with free plugins, mastering, workflow improvements, customizing reaper and answering questions from the community. There is stuff in here for all experience levels

Now that I've got the hang of making tutorials I've been releasing them at a pretty good pace. Gotta thank REAPER 5's video editing capabilities for that!

I can't embed them all but I'll put in a couple of my recent personal favorites, things that resulted gigantic leaps in productivity.

If you want to take your REAPER skills to the next level I urge you to watch the entire playlist, subscribe on youtube and visit the website where there are also written tutorials, news, interviews and stuff from other helpful REAPER users.

thanks for this. just posted a question about selecting high numbered tracks, like well into the 100s. asked same thing a long time ago and don't think i ever got a response. then stumbled on your video for track selection through custom actions. hadn't realized reaconsole could solve my issue. great tip!

edit:

hmm. spoke too soon. this seems to require reaper v5 which i was holding off on until i finish current project. i have v4.7x. and sws 2.7.0 which doesn't have 'run console command.' it only has 'open console with s to select track.' i'm guessing that will just open the console and i'd have to type in my tracks every time rather than embedding the selection. is it correct that 'run console command' is only in sws 2.8? sws 2.8 is incompatible with reaper v4.7x.

/edit

thanks again,
BabaG

Thanks for this tutorial. I have been doing a lot of dual system recording during the last couple of years. I am glad to have seen in your video that not only the transients matter but it is also important to check the visual representation of the clap. Is there a way to automate the alignment in Reaper? It would be awesome to have a functionality identical to what PluralEyes software does...

FYI - Below is an article about the common / known audio jitter in DSLR cameras.

Thanks for the link.

I've used the automatic sync with audio option in Premiere CC 2014 but still have to nudge the video or audio a few frames.

No automatic option in REAPER yet.

I'm working on a larger tutorial, several hours and have to reset my camera ever 30min, which means syncing multiple times plus the problem of my screen capture at 30fps and camera at 29.97. As well, the sync of the audio in the screen capture out of sync. But I was editing in screenflow because I didn't want to wait hours for rendering before I can edit. maybe it's worth it in the long run.

I use Premiere for editing as well and the auto sync functionality is one of the features that I dislike. I'm thinking of cancelling my CC subscription as DaVinci Resolve seems to be a very good option. In the last couple of videos that I published I used ProTools 12 to align the audio to the picture. It was very convenient to work with a DNXHD render file that came out of Adobe Media Encoder. However, I got rid of ProTools... new video features seem to be promising in Reaper 5.

If you record longer takes with your camera, remember recording multiple claps as even the portable audio recorders tend to not be accurate over time. Of course those are not the SoundDevices ones but the cheaper ones like Tascam,Zoom.

Regards,

Peter
