Default FX browser: plug-in icons

This has been discussed in the past, but here's a new FR:

>>> https://i.imgur.com/lpfSHUc.png

The displayed icons would be those for the (filtered) listed plug-ins.

The images would be generated by Reaper only when a plug-in is scanned (deeply), stored in AppData somewhere and could be subsequently edited by the user.

Oh, and you could drag the pic onto a TCP or track

oh I would love that...

I have been looking thru all the forum to find an answer... don't know how things could be done, even in Reascript it seems you can't..

I've actually assigned icons to all my main audio folders in Windows because it speeds up my folder diving immensely. Need this for choosing VSTs so bad...I find it so easy to forget what I'm doing when too much reading happens between the impulse and the goal.

Check this out!!!
what Heda just did! haha

Go support/donate/advice and enjoy... lets help him to make this thing complete together.
.
even tho it's always best to have it by default, Heda did a workaround for this which work very good.

Wow, this is funny because you small animation here immediately grabbed my attention, it looks so nice... so I clicked, and realized I already tried Heda thing - and deleted it quite quickly, the looks of it was not good to my eyes - at all, if I remember well... The icons I see here, for the different categories, where made by you?

EDIT: I rechecked the original post, and it deals with "track templates"... nice but I just want to add an effect to an existing track...

you can use it as "fx chains" and drag and drop to add more effects to a track.

but then again I would prefer COCKOS to make such a feature native and not an extension by users.

And also, like Studio One, allow one to capture screenshots of the VST window.
It can be added to the menu "+" drop down in the FX Window.

These can be shown in the FX list (like Studio One) and even a screen overlay as well, like FL Studio (beautiful).
- Pretty much making them available via API for LUA scripts as well.

For FX Chains and Track Templates they can do like Heda's script, use sidecar png's and Track icons.

No news at all. Heda's script is the closest you can get for now.

Guys
I just wanted to share with you that Heda took his script to another level, now it can even save templates + thumnails in one click!

Default 4 years in requesting...

Indeed it's a great idea and it would certainly bring the workflow to a superb easy and fun to use interface.
I always forget the plugins i downloaded in next two hours and never go back to them as they are only in text which disturbs me and my memory a lot.

I see it's been 4 years in requesting this without any real responses. Is there any possible way to actually pay the dev's to develop this in Reaper? All I really need it something like the picture below.

This feature looks pretty cool in Studio One but tbh I rarely (if ever) feel the need to browse around in the FX browser. I know what I want and search for it straight away. It's even faster with the Quick Adder 2 script.

Anything else would be a strong indication that I have too many plugins.

This topic seems dead.

Although I found a system to create visual toolbars for all plugins, it's quite laborious to propose to general usership ...
I would prefer, for itnernal/native plugins, a visual browser.

You cannot imagine how many time:
- I don't recall the name of that specific plugin
- I have not clues where it was
- Discovering "THATA" plugin you wanted to use but you didn't find when you were mixing, and when everything is finished and even published: ZAC ... it's appearing there under any name except all the ones I had in my mind
etc etc etc

i'm quite sure Im' not the only one to hae this issue.

Being now in 2021 and having proven that visual language is way more effective than written klunky stuff, it would eb very nice to think about.

For external plugins:
I know it's not even foreseen by the VST* standard, so the only one solution is manually to create visual toolbars. At least Reaper enables this.

A tutorial is in progress. I just finished 3 of them for me, in order to analyse and simplify as much as possible the operations

if ever they will implement this myrequest: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=256467 it will be much quicker and much less prone to errors.
