two very old bugs in project folder cleanup
I reported both issues already for a mid 4 version of Reaper!
first: if files ready for the project folder cleanup have German letters in their file names (äöüß) they are not deleted by the cleanup feature. second: if I want to see all files that are not used in the project in the cleanup window, I have to open project bay at least once briefly (watching newly recorded files to appear in the bay's list for the first time) and close it before the cleanup window shows all unused media. If I delete media from the project window and then trigger the cleanup window right away, files deleted just before that are not (always) shown. This second issue happens about 95% of the time with recently deleted files. |

any audio format I try it with. The problem seems to be caused by the file names containing German letters.

are they listed as unused and just not deleted, or not even listed?

they are correctly listed to be no longer in the project. I select them and hit DELETE SELECTED FILES, the dialog closes and when I re-open the same dialog, they are still there. Files with other names (not containing those letters) can be deleted as expected (yet not if they had been selected with at least one of the files with those "bad" letters).
My recorded files get named automatically according to the project's name ($project name - $track name). If the project or track name contains German letters I'm facing this issue. I just tried it with project name referencing client's name (Müller) and also with track name "Flöte" (= flute). It's sufficient if there's a single German character in the file's name not to be able to delete it via the cleanup feature. |

not that I'm aware of. As I record all files the same way they should get deleted like all others. Only difference is that they have a special character in their file name.

as long as they are not locked by a Reaper session, I can delete them there.

really weird! I just found out that under certain circumstances I can actually delete them but as opposed to files with "normal characters" in their names, I have to delete files with special characters one by one or perhaps two of them at a time. Then, it even works with the option "send to recycle bin" on.

GREAT NEWS, Justin!
May the "two" bugs I have reported in the first post be related? to even get the file I just deleted show up into cleanup window, often, I have to first briefly open project bay to see them being added to the bay and only then, I can see them in cleanup window and delete them. If I only delete them and then open cleanup window right away, they are not even listed even though they had been deleted from the project. |

Try 5.26pre1 (in the pre-release forum), see if it fixes the one bug. If the other bug persists, maybe make a LICEcap of that?

Unfortunately, I have to bump this thread again because the "second" bug I described is still present: files deleted from the project are not always shown in the cleanup window (regardless of the letters used in their names).
If I record items and delete some of them and then open the cleanup window via a keystroke I often don't see the files that had just been deleted from the project. In this case, I can only make them show up in the cleanup window if I briefly open and close the project bay (where I see them being removed quickly from the list) prior to opening the cleanup window. This bug persists since a long time, so long that I have already gotten used to the keystroke combinations: delete items first open project bay for a second, then close it and finally open cleanup window. Hmm, have you always saves the project before opening the Cleanup?

no, it doesn't seem to matter if I saved the project before or not.

If there are other projects in the same path that reference those files, they won't be marked as unused.
If the project bay is set to auto-retain files (or those files are retained), then they won't be marked as unused. |

I don't have the project bay set to auto-retain (just learned that this feature exists but am unsure what it does actually). The issue happens with any of my projects - not every time I launch the clean up window but most of the time. That's why I've so gotten used to hit the according keyboard shoprtcuts for the workaround.
I always save projects to a dedicated project folder first, so there are no other files in it. I'll try and make a licecap or screenvideo. |

I think I catched the bug in the following video (last minute). Please download the video for analysis as I have not enough webspace to keep it online for long.

And in the case above, your project is untitled/unsaved, right?

Did my video give you any idea of what is happening or can I provide anything else to help advance in tracking down the issue?
