Reaper does not normalize to 0dBFS (FIXED)
I had a thread about this in the nit-pick forum, which Justin popped his head in to check it out, but I never got any reply, so I will try one more time in this section...because this is clearly a bug.
Basically the problem is Reapers normalization (and SWS) does not always normalize to 0 dBFS correctly, it usually falls short. ( unless attenuating...then it seems like it can work). It would be nice to hear back from the devs on this... Thanks

I imagine that this is due to the peak files being limited to 16-bit, so when it uses them to calculate the peak, it's getting an approximate value, which might be slightly off if the material is 24-bit... So maybe just live with it for now? It'll be close enough for all practical purposes. I suppose we could add a slow normalize action, which might take a few seconds depending on how long the media is.

Please fix the normalization...?
It’s not correct and there is no reason to cut corners for such a simple operation. Is there a way to make a script or action to do it correctly ?

I’ve had that happen before... then I increase the volume manually in the item preferences.

It’s a joke..,much like a DAW not normalizing to 1 (0 dBFS).
When normalization is fixed, I will remove the sig... (I changed my sig just for you, cupcakez...)

Why is this critical? Just wondering.

1) it’s wrong from a technical standpoint
2) no other DAW/app I use/used does not normalize to 1 3) I normalize a lot of files, it’s a pain to have to do it in a 3rd party to get it right. There’s probably a way to make a script to do it right (sws doesn’t last I checked), but it should be correct in the DAW itself. No excuse. I could give 2 shits what it costs the CPU or if it takes more than 1 ms to do.

I still don't get why it would matter in any real world situation. It's relative to the biggest peak in the file, so you never get any sort of consistent volume out of it anyway; just a fuller looking waveform, right? Also there are around 20 normalization actions between ReaPack and SWS...

i want/need my files to be normalized to 0 dBFS, and Reaper should do this natively.
what's there not to get about that ? couldn't be simpler.

So the critical thing is that your desires and expectations are fulfilled by Cockos? Well good luck with that.

Are you trying to get banned? This forum is a very friendly community where people try to help and respect each other. You might have mistaken this for some other forum where you can abuse others. That is not the case here.

heh..urmm..i believe eveything todo with the whole has importance..
if a function is sold to work a certain way-it's not a crime to expect the results wanted,consistantly+repeatably.. what results are you getting at this moment bezusheist? i know using reason,a normalized file will clip like a ....badboy-- and needs turning down by at least -0.6db to not 'clip'...but reason has a softclip light, which triggers just under 0db +a proper "your clipping now" light, when fully over...= 2 lights... lol. soft+hard clip there.. |

Glad the tragic political ad was removed.
Once I saw that ad - I completely understood the motivations, the relentless demands, and then the abusive response.... totally predictable |

Regardless the ad, maybe it does need fixing and is a legitimate issue. Demanding from devs here does not work though.

Oh wow...I didn’t notice that...I’ll have to check it.
I’ve been hesitant to update lately because it seems every time I do something else is broken...
