Default copy envelope along with object

Am I missing a setting somewhere? I can drag around objects the automation comes with it, but when I ctrl drag and make a copy, the envelope is gone. I can work around with by manually selecting all automation... but what's the point of automation when I have to select every single automation track and manually copy it? Seems strange as most other functionality is very polished...

Unfortunately the situation is currently that there is no handy way to copy the automation envelopes together with the items. But I am sure it will come to Reaper eventually...

dang it... strange thing to overlook.. but I guess there are more pressing issues? Anyway, everything else is cool. Guess it'll get added in later. I'm sure it's on the to do list. Maybe for things with heavy automation and CC curves and whatnot, it may be a good idea to do those in energyXT loaded as vst.

Yeah, that one has cost me consternation and time. It was one of those things that for quite a while whenever I needed it, I assumed I just didn't know how to do it and was in too big of a hurry to figure it out and just copied the envelopes separately.
Then I finally realized -- to my surprise -- that you just couldn't do it.
Move but not copy? An unfortunate omission, to be sure.

At least it is possible to copy/paiste the envelope nodes per CTRL-C/CTRL-V. This even works between different tracks and different automation destinations, which is more than other DAWs I know can offer.

Thought I add this information, so new users (like me) don´t get misleaded. I´d like to see drag-copy function in the future too, but can live with that for now.

Frank

Edit:
The above looks like I didn´t really get the point there, but I am. You´re about copying the automation as a whole with the item. Which should be quite easy to implement, I think. Problems arise when copying to different tracks as there are likely orphaned envelopes to be associated whith some proper destination.

there are discussions about a flexible solution to this:

Automation clips (like midi clips)
Automation items
automation within clips
item based automation, please
Can we Get Automation Items
Copy/Paste/Cut envelope segments

and it's badly needed imo.

Forgive me for disputing, but I'm not sure item envelope automation is relevant at all here.

If you want to copy an item with *track* fx automation you're not talking about something attached to the item.. just about copying the item and the track-based envelopes that sit within that same time range.. in one go.

yeah, but if you COULD attach it to the item this would not be an issue think big!

great little feature in fls (imageline) is edit events. you can put them directly on the soundpattern or make a single alonestanding pattern just with the automation. this you can move around or copy-paste it where ever you want.
