Feature request: make them just a couple pixels larger (perhaps 10px instead of 7px). Better yet (and in Reaper fashion), make a preference that allows the user to specify the pixel size for the automation point so it's as big or small as they like! Credit to BirdBird for the image quoted above - it helps show this issue visually, and why the feature request would be helpful! |

Excellent idea. Also note how Cubase drives readability further by having the points be brighter than the line and having a thin outline that gives them the impression of some height.

Yes very much so especially when they get up at the top of the range they're even harder than they normally are which is already hard

Sounds good. Worth a look for a possible improvement.

What about a "snap"-feature, which snaps your mousecursor to the nearest envelope-point? Like snap works on the edges of items?

+1 to bigger envelope points, preferably with adjustable size and brightness.
I think this should be considered as accessibility feature. It matters especially for people with less than perfect eyesight, as well as users of Hi-DPI/Retina displays. Speaking as someone with decreased visual acuity: from above examples, Cubase's dots are easiest to discern due to size and contrast. FL Studio's circles, while larger, have less contrast at least in that color. So I think Cubase sets the better example there. |

Agree. Lots of areas where Reaper could benefit from increased contrast/readability. So much gray on gray and stuff in the default theme.

While the appearance of the Automation Envelopes and Points are being discussed, could we also consider making the new automation points being added to envelopes that are being recorded appear in Red.
Its such a helpful feature on large mixes. |

Automation as a whole needs to be added to WALTER or at least have some user definable imagery like ai_bg/ai_bg_sel, not only dots, the default is all aligned and colored poorly and looks out of place in pretty much any theme.
Image here shows a user designed audio item BG vs the default Automation item, audio item is vastly superior to the default automation item layout and coloring.

Why developers almost always tend to make everything small and barely usable? I believe they think to cram everything into a small laptop screen but this is very bad idea.

Just bumping this thread with my +1.
I have a few ideas on how I vision this working. I will edit the post later when I get more time to make a mock-up and a better detail of how it should work. Thanks. |

Another bump as I've just started using automation.
For a jump start in modernizing this, why not borrow some inspiration from dedicated graphics editors of serious 2D and 3D programs like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Cinema4D (Adobe: OUT!) - maybe even top it off with dumbbell handles on every point for steering tangent, continuity, and bézier weight by drag+control keys?

+ These points could be a bit larger. Maybe we could have those larger in beta realeases and ask users if it is in deed better or not.
