Default CXR Alpha

C(Cubendo) X(xml) to R(Reaper)

Alpha. http://theaudiocave.com/cxr.exe 64k.

Video: http://theaudiocave.com/rconvert/rconvert.html

1. Export: "File | Export Selected Tracks" from a Cubendo project (choose "Reference" not "Copy") to a xml file.

2. Load / import that xml file into this program (and wait, it's pretty slow right now).

3. Export as a Reaper project.

Don't expect miracles. This will be much more useful if I can bring in other stuff later like eq and automation.

Notes: Right now it will (should?) capture all audio tracks - up to 32 - and all clips on those tracks. It also captures the start offset times when clips are trimmed at their beginning, and the clip length. Auto-crossfades are turned off in the import project file so that any overlapping clips from Cubendo won't auto-crossfade in Reaper.

The "Launch After Export" option is disabled and not yet working.

I expect bugs / crashes / hangs with this alpha release so keep that in mind. The only thing it requires to run is the VBrun (msvbvm60.dll) in the system directory. If you have shareware you probably have it already.

If it doesn't run for lack of that file you can download it here...

http://theaudiocave.com/msvbvm60.dll

The only other controls are standard windows controls, rich text box and common controls for the progess indicator. If it begins to fail to launch for many I'll create an install package.

wow... this is promising!
I still have a bunch of cubase sessions that will eventually need liberating!

... Cant see the video though... WMplayer loads and the windows media player animation loops, timeline slider moves...
No audio or video though...
Could be me obviously..

Thanks Lawrence

Lawrence,

You are my hero for making this!

Is the 32 track limitation on CXR or Steinberg? Just curious.

It won't run for me in Firefox, but it runs fine in IE for some reason, so try with IE if you haven't already.

Lawrence,

Well, although this doesn't apply to me 'cos I have no Steinberg files, I can see that this is gonna be huge for Cubendo/Cubase users.

Having access to an 'industry standard' format will also open many doors for REAPER, I'm sure.

Good luck with this.

Watching with interest!

The 32 track limit is in the conversion app. I just stopped at 32 with the code. I'll double it to 64 with the next release.

That was a good first step I think, lots more to do like writing functions to bring in 4 bands of EQ and speeding up the import code. This will be an ongoing project.

This is very very cool but... it don't work for me the message I get when I try to run your app is "Component COMCTL32.OCX or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid"

I assume my SYS32 folder is missing that file but I want to check before I throw some random downloaded file into my sys folder.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Here's a full install with all of the controls. It will create a shortcut and put the program in the C:\CXR Translator directory. 1.46 mb.

That link takes me to this page http://www.w3.org/Protocols/ which I can't find comctl32.ocx. I do have the file in my sys32 folder and when I type the command i get this "this specified module could not be found"

Are you saying it will bring in my audio files with all my edits intact minus crossfades from C4 to Reaper?

It's working here with the installer but the tracks are getting mixed up

Here's a screen shot. The top track I split and if you notice where it splits the second track ends up there.

Sped up the import code by a factor of ... 1000??? ... by stripping away tons of stuff from the xml file I don't need before the text character parsing starts.

New exe. http://theaudiocave.com/CXR/cxr.exe

When I try to run it, it displays the following error:

Component 'RICHTX32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not currently registered: a file is missing or invalid'

Any ideas? Anyone?

Thanks.

It will be wicked if I can get this to work.

OK, I have managed to get it installed (Using the installer), now when it comes to importing the xml file, the program does not seem to do anything at all. For this experiment, the track I wish to import has only 3 tracks in it too? Any ideas?
Thanks

I had the same experience here too.

Are you trying to move 96k files by any chance?

Lawrence, just want to say a big "Thanks!" for this.
Just lately I almost went nuts trying to bring an old Cubase project with lots of tracks into Reaper.

Haven't tested yet but will report back.

I really need to get this to work the other way, so i can export reaper sessions into cubase. I know this sounds like blasphemy, but i'm tracking demos and im going into a studio based on cubase 4 in a month and need to get my reaper sessions into cubase format.

Any way i could get this program to work the other way around? Or does anyone have any suggestions.

Also this might be a good idea to ask if cubase sx sessions are compatible with cubase 4?

Amazing work lawrence. Really appreciate it.

I don't find it too hard to import Reaper projects into other DAWs thanks to Reaper's stem rendering function, which Cubase still hasn't and is a pain.

The only problem with exporting large contiguous files from Reaper - say in a 32 track project - is that you have to do it in two stages, mono and stereo since rendering cannot distinguish between the two by itself.

But yeah, compared to Cubase it's gravy.

Well it's a very good idea and it looks to work on some systems, but not mine

I have the very same problem as mentioned above by some : after selecting the file to import, nothing happens - I waited several minutes to be sure, but the button for import is available immediatly, as if nothing was done with the file.

I tried with the installer version, the first cxr.exe, the most recent one, tried with xml files exported with reference to wav and with wav copied - result is always the same. The button "export as reaper project" never get available.

Any clue?

I'm no programmer and this is only a guess but since the program seems to rely on Microsoft VB runtime, maybe a (new)install might help for those it's not working.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...d-cdf2d29a79d5

Beware, not sure if it could destroy anything on your system, maybe Lawrance has some words on this?

It does rely on the VB runtime and that file, a *.dll, does no harm to the system.

Ah ha, must keep an eye on this thread.

I have a couple of hacker friends who still insist that Cubase is the way to go (no explaining some people) probably cause a large portion of the psy-trance producers seem to be stuck on/in Cubendo.

This will make life a lot easier to collaborate if opportunities arise

Thanks Lawrence, nice to know this option is here if/when I need it
