Default Decent Sampler Project

Hi guys,
Just to comment on a very promising project for us Linux users. Decent sampler is a new project born from the Pianobook community and they are nice enough to create a linux version. There are a good number of instruments already converted but the goal is to convert all Pianobook instruments to Decent Sampler. Right now there are more than 400 instruments sampled in Pianobook (mostly Kontakt) and so far they have converted around 100 instruments.

Download Decent Sampler her and give it a go.
https://www.decentsamples.com/produc...ampler-plugin/

There are some instruments here:
https://www.decentsamples.com/produc...ecent-sampler/

And here's a google search that will render most of the already converted instruments.
https://www.google.com/search?q=site...+Sampler%22%29

Here's a brief explanation from the creator
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hUc-8Y2bL0

I hope you can find something for you there.

As usual I have no affiliation with the creators just found out this and thought it is something we all can get behind.

Enjoy

Nice news, thank you very much!

Samplers are still a rather weak department in Linux, and while I'd prefer a stronger, synth-like plugin with SFZ support, like TX16Wx, if this is stable and has a good bunch of instruments for free, then I'll surely use it.

Wasn't aware of the fact that Decent Sampler now has a native Linux version. That's super cool! I know that there are a bunch of people that used the plugin through yabridge in the past, but it's super nice that we now also have a full fledged native 'commercial' sample library player on Linux. There are some linking issues with the current build, but I've sent some feedback and suggestions to the developer and he got back to me within literal minutes so no doubt it will work great soon!

I tested decent sampler on reaper 6.2.5 gnu linux native version and mx linux 19.3 system. It work perfect. Best regards from Naples ( Italy)

I've also tested out Decent Sampler, but for Windows, and it does work very well - it seems to be a more "thought out" sfz player. The Pianobook website is still working on the search mechanism for Decent Sampler instruments, but when you find them, they are worth the effort. I like this player a lot. My only very minor criticism is that the instruments do not seem to respond to the Pitch Wheel on my M-Audio 61-es.

Below is my demo track using the Decent Sampler for everything but the bass (which is 4Front Bass).

When browsing Pianobook, try filtering by 'exs24' format. Those are the one's that have mostly been ported to DecentSampler so far.

EDIT: Also, just FYI, it looks like a recent update of Decent Sampler has changed some of its config locations. I had to sign in again and found my library was empty.

Yes you are correct on the better version of "SFZ" so much they have created a couple of apps that convert SFZ and EXS24 to Decent Library. I need to get the app.
Having said that there's a youtube video explaining how to program your own libraries into Decent Sampler. I'm in the middle of converting (Manually) a couple of drum libraries (One of them is Big Mono from Analogue Drums) that I used as SFZ but the Linux SFZ players are very basic. Probably I will share the ones that are free drum samples, don't know about Big Mono as Analogue Drums recently stopped trading so don't know if I'm allowed to share it even though they were free to start.

This is awesome. I left my old mac daw with kontack on it, because I wanted to use and learn a modern daw. So I moved to reaper in Linux and it seems to be getting better all the time.

One issue I noticed: when I load a project with one or more Decent Sampler instances, the plugins don't play anything until I open the GUI at least once.

You should leave a comment on their website, they are requesting people notify them of bugs. I already asked them about a multi-output option.

Update: there is a new version, 0.9.10, on the website, but apparently Reaper fails to scan it. I had to revert back to 0.9.8.

Edit: I reported this, and the dev sent me a fixed version to try, and it works. Not sure if the fix is on the website yet, I expect it will be fairly soon. While testing this, I also happened to find that Reaper fails to scan the VST2 versions (both 0.9.8 and 0.9.10), but VST3 works for me... (The issue I mentioned earlier with loading projects still persists.)

Hey gang!

I got wind of this one a while back via the pianobook project and thought it was alright even when bridging the windoze version, so I was very pleased when I heard about the Linux version (though it seems to be more of built in bridge, not that it matters).

Samplers seems to be a bit of a week-spot for Linux audio, at least for deep-sampled organic sounds. From a user perspective, I find DecentSampler to be quite awesome, and a good alternative to kontakt for simpler home-cooked instruments, though multi-outs would be a welcome upgrade. But from an instrument-bakers perspective it’s a bit clunky and frustrating not to have a visual interface, especially when you know fuck all about code.. But over all I’m quite smitten. I’m still fantasizing about a kontakt-style sampler for Linux though..

I’m currently cooking up a few organic pads for DS, and I baked a drumkit the other day from some old drum-recordings of mine.

Check it out if you want (1GB Download).

https://gretchenswretchedlabnotes.wo...sampled-drums/

It wont put toontrack out of business anytime soon, but it was a fun lab-project, and a learning experience..

Anyway, I think DecentSampler might be my new go-to sampler for making basic sample-instruments that won’t require the full kontakt-extravaganza.

For those of you who installed "Decent Sampler", here's a list of 18 new instruments. Just check the names, search, download and enjoy!!

Thanks for making and sharing your drum sounds. I like DecentSampler a lot.
It's a great companion to the current bevvy of linux synths.

Kontakt works well for me in both windows reaper in wine-staging 6.4* and older, and linux reaper, after the dll is wrapped by linvst or yabridge. I get much better cpu performance with single-core mode enacted in a 4 core 3.4 ghz i7 setup. The linux distro doesn't seem to make much difference as I don't often use more than a single instance, but RT kernels might factor in when larger projects are created. Glenbo does larger projects and is quite successful with them, so is a better reference than I am.

There are at least a dozen DS format sounds that for me are amazing, and probably that many great (for my needs) PianoBook sounds still only in Kontakt format.

* the newer wine versions don't display the text in reaper's preferences panel, a pretty wild bug. Still the same bug in wine-staging 6.12...somebody might be asleep at the wheel...I read where the truetype font regimen in linux had a change a while back, but I gave up after wasting too many hours at the tinker's table...

Cheers
