Default Since 6.54, project that contain too many items runs really slow

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ges...TMMuwczJtbG3hl

I uploaded a project that contain 37352 empty items. Try opening it, then drag an item quickly. If you are using any version that later then 6.54(including the latest dev), you will see the item is moving much slower than your mouse. There tow ways to fix, delete those empty items, or hide the tracks that contain too many items.

Actually any items(audio, midi, etc) can make a project slow, only if they are more enough.

If you do this in 6.53, it is as smoothe as usual.

ah yes, an old optimization for many overlapping 1px-wide items was removed, re-adding!

Thank you Justin. But I tested again in the latest dev, still very laggy when draging an item, comparing to doing it in an empty project.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I just placed an empty item(about 4s length), duplicated it again and again, so they are not overlapping and not short items.

Using +dev0430 and your project above it is very fast here on both Windows and macOS. Perhaps post your reaper.ini, there could be a setting that affects this?

What color theme are you using? If it's not the 6.0 default, does the behavior change if you switch to the 6.0 default theme, using +dev0430 or later?

I have tested in the default theme, but it was still laggy.
