Default [SOLVED] Opus - save live output - causes freezing+silence

Saving live output with the following settings:
-OGG Opus
-8 Channels
-VBR
-256 bitrate

After about 10 minutes REAPER will go silent and freeze up for about 10 seconds.

Here is a screenshot of performance meter after coming back for the 3rd time. You can see RT CPU slowly rising, then maxing out

REAPER v6.59rc1 44.1kHz 64spls
Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 (1st gen) Firmware:1056 Driver:4.100.10
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor 4.05 GHz
Windows 10 Pro
Version 21H2
OS build 19044.1706

If you change the complexity from 10 to something lower does that help?

(running something similar on macOS here and no issues for 18 minutes and counting). What samplerate and blocksize and project resample mode is set?

After writing the text below, I tried 48kHz sample rate and it seems to have solved the problem completely Recording live opus, 8 channels, bitrate: 256 per channel, complexity: 10; a project running at ~86% RT CPU for about 20 mins, no problems (so far, fingers crossed)

Increasing buffer size also seems to work, but I can't do that for what I'm using reaper for.

Ok, 44.1kHz, 64spls

I've tried lowering Complexity, Bitrate, Channels (over 2), and changed to combined instead of per-channel.

Same freezing and silence - eventually (about 12 mins usually).

Also managed to reproduce with 2 channels at 16 spls buffer.

What are the resample modes listed in the project settings dialog?

ah, ok

Playback: Sinc Interpolation 64pt (medium quality)
Render : Sinc Interpolation 192pt

EDIT: looks like r8brain also solves the freezing @ 44.1kHz

OK thanks, I think we have this sorted out and we should be able to fix it for the next release or worst case the release after that.

In the meantime, the issue should only arise when resampling to or from 44.1k, when rendering to opus or mp3 only, when rendering long enough for the RAM creep to affect the system. If you're able to change any of those parameters (source sample rate, target sample rate, output format, render length) then it shouldn't be a problem. If you can't change any of those parameters you could mitigate the problem by increasing the buffer size; doubling the buffer will result in half the RAM creep.

6.59rc3 should address this, we hope!

v6.59rc3: Successfully bouncing for 30 mins, a project which previously froze consistently after 12 mins.

Thank you wonderful devs
