Preserve metadata (for AIFF) in batch processing
Hello,
Now, I thought I found the right tool to process hundreds of audio files with VST effects in a batch (Mac version). And while testing I found a little bummer for me. My source files are mainly AIFF, all with metadata (text and cover art). And any batch process I ran so far eliminated all metadata during the process. So, in the end, I received nice results when it comes to audio, but there's not a tiny bit of metadata included in the destination files (e.g. MP3). I know the batch option says "preserve metadata if possible". But currently, this is by far not enough 😉. I can't re-tag the destination files, and that makes them useless for me. Very sad, since the batch itself runs pretty well. Are there any plans to improve metadata support? Thanks, Matthias |

Can you link to an .aif file that contains embedded text and cover art?

Sure, here you can find a short example: https://www.dropbox.com/s/83befqksgc9y1el/test.aif?dl=0
On a Mac I can see all the information incl. cover. |

Ah... this .aif file has an embedded ID3 tag, which is not something I've seen before. We can probably add support for this, although I would not expect much (or any, really) third-party software to be able to read the tags.

Actually that was super easy, at least on the read side. It's probably too late to make it into the upcoming 6.67 release, but reading ID3 tags in .aif files (and preserving the metadata when converting to other file formats) will be in the next development build of REAPER.

Okay, I wasn't aware of the concrete kind of tagging. But I use a lot of applications on e.g. macOS and iOS which all show the metadata incl. cover. For example dBPoweramp, roon, macOS and iOS without additional applications, and several Steinberg programs.
So, I thought this is rather common. On e.g. Macs tagged AIFF files are very common since WAV is obviously less tag friendly, even on Windows. As far as I know. Last edited by maddib; 09-06-2022 at 02:26 PM. |
