Yeah, it adds indentation of the first line to the next ones.
Very annoying.

You likely need to copy the whole line including the prefix spaces. Thats how I always do it for Lua code and works just fine.

hmm yeah I guess the indentation should be normalized against the minimum of the start of the selection, and the leftmost non-whitespace, maybe? need to make sure that doesn't have any negative side effects...
