closing MX while peaks are being built stops same file peak-build process in arrange

1- open MX, browse to a long file and allow REAPER to start automatically building peaks.
2- drag the media into Arrange
3- close the MX before the peaks are finished building
4- issue: the peak-building process stops, and the media in Arrange is blank.

expected behavior is that peaks should continue being built, regardless of where the peak-building process began.
