V7: text still too tiny for Windows users using a scale greater than 100%
[post moved from Theme Adjuster topic]
Hello,
*I don't know where to put that message, which is important, I guess. So I decided to create a specific topic*
This unpleasant behaviour (bug?) is present for years and I'm disappointed it's still present in official v7. When you choose, let's say, 175% scale in Windows display settings, you can notice that the text is so small compared to other elements in REAPER.
You simply cannot read comp names, for example.
It's the only audio software that behaves this way. I think that every element should increase proportionally the ones from the other. It's not the case at the moment.
Is it possible to do something for REAPER 7?
Thank you,
creal.

It does not solve the problem. This is why I created a thread...

HI
A big problem for the action list window, very small text, I do use the windows magnifier for it.
Would be better If I could change the text height!

Another example of this problem. Thank you.
It's the only audio software I have that does not increase fonts at the same level as other elements when you use hidpi.
As a window user, I also regret the lack of a native dark mode (problem that does not exist on MacOS). But it's another topic.

I take it the theme tweaker Walter font settings don't help.

I think that has been a long term issue. There was a script / thread in the forum that got round some of the issues but it was a bit clunky from what I remember (although very cleverly programmed I think) and needed resetting at each update.
Seems like Justin and Schwa have great eyes and don't need to worry ;-)

Old man Lowell has been barking up this tree for years. Nobody cares. No, seriously. It won't change. Reaper's the only modern software I've used in my career that doesn't properly use rescaling, font customizing, and all things UX (on Windows).
Just do the best you can hacking it with Windows 10 or 11, and get used to blurry or jagged display elements. People will gaslight you here lol. I've learned to love this "quirk" about Reaper!
Sorry!

A lot of plugins scale poorly compared to other DAWs, as well. Xfer and Arturia plugins at default sizes are extremely tiny at 125% at 4K.
I whined about that here, with examples: https://forum.cockos.com/showpost.ph...6&postcount=12

We gotta keep on nagging the UX people :-)
The bit that bothers me about it all is that we're not asking for something revolutionary or a way of working that might differ from the fundamental way a DAW should work.....we just wanna be able to read the effing screen.

The 7.01 update should have fixed many of the font scaling issues.

Thanks, schwa.
Indeed, the lane font looks better now, but overall the problem remains.
REAPER is not consistent regarding the UI aspect when you work with high resolutions. Especially, font size looks really tiny compared to other elements. And it's frustrating for a lot of people. Personally, it was the only enhancement I expected from a major update of REAPER.
Is it a dev branch that hi-dpi users can hope someday?
Thank you for considering it,
creal.

I suspect the reliance on Windows’ built-in scaling is a lot of the problem here. It’s just not very good at it, no matter how it’s configured. I wish it was half as good as macOS at it.
