Default Stuttering When Adding FX Chain Preset To Item During Playback (Solved)

It seems like since the 7.34. update I'm noticing a new behavior that isn't ideal. I'm using REAPER in a unique way that most others probably aren't (just as a simple stereo processing analog loop for mastering) but here's what's going on:

1) I have audio on a track, I'm sending that audio out to a handful of hardware outputs simultaneously.

2) I have another track in Record/Input so I can monitor and eventually record the audio back to a new track.

3) When I select an item on the source track and add my usual FX Chain Preset to that item while audio is playing, it used to just go silent for a second or so while the plugins are loaded which was fine.

4) Since the 7.34 update, instead of silence I get stuttering audio for a second or two while the plugins load which is kind of annoying.

I'm going to see if somehow a certain plugin is now causing this but wanted to post here in case anybody else is experiencing this and it's a general REAPER issue that can be fixed.

I'm on macOS 15.3.1
Mac Pro M2 Ultra
RME HDSPe AES Audio Device

adding time sensitive and/or "heavy" fx/vsts during playback can certainly cause this. Usually you'd automate the fx to have mix turned from 0 to whatever in situations like these, so the fx/vst is already active when "activating" it.

I should have clarified that I've been doing this operation for years now without an issue and this is just for initial insertion if the item FX chain so I can dial in the desired settings.

It's not for something that needs to happen on every playback at a certain time via automation.

This basically happens when I first insert the typical item FX chain I always used. In the past, I could insert the FX chain during playback and it would just mute the audio for a second or so while things initialize. Now it does a loud stuttering of the audio before it resumes as normal.

It just started happening with the latest update so I'm wondering if there is a new REAPER behavior that can be changed back to how it was.

I'll try to say it another way:

When I have audio playing and try to insert a given Item FX chain, the audio stutters for a second or two instead of going silent for a second or two.

This just started happening with the latest update.

It would definitely be great to fix this if either of the REAPER developers are reading this.

Something definitely changed with the last public release, and hasn't improved in any of the pre-release versions since.

Also, I just went back to version 7.33 and the issue is gone so I can confirm this is a new behavior for 7.34.

Yep - we changed some API functionality, how are you adding the fx?

I programmed a shortcut (Shift+F) to run the custom action "Paste Default FX chain and Show FX"

Does this info help or do you need more info?

That's enough, yeah. Adding a workaround for the next pre-release builds.
