Default Track Icons moved to Left for better tcp allighnment

Alot of people seemed unhappy with the way the tcp reacts when using track icons and folder myself included. The main problem being it needs to be completely resizeable at will and able to accommodate multiple track sizes at once while remaining unjumbled.
When using track icons and nested folders It obversely is far from perfect ..Many heated discussions later...

This is what I came up with..

First of all The track icon saga .
I rarely used track icon due to them messing up the screen layout so badly , seems I wasn't alone , But the ansew was a simple one not only tidying up the screen but saving space.

Put the track icons on the left

Hears them how they are now

Hears them on the Left.

Few...

++1 - I agree that the folder icons should be moved to the left and that all tracks in the TCP should be shifted the same, much like they are in the MCP.

As far as the other stuff you posted, you have some good ideas, but I think you should post them in a different post about trimming down the size of the TCP and/or with optional TCP features (it has a better chance of getting worked on this way).

Your suggestion smells sweet - especially tracks 5 and 19

edit:
I am having second thoughts. I don't like the way the icons on the left are interacting with the child track indicators.

Standing on jedstar2000's shoulders:

-- keep the track icons (and the folder icons) aligned vertically where possible
-- there is more room for the track name and vol fader too
-- the folder indents will need some work

I think we need to look at how the folder_indent.png images are going to interact with the folder icons. Currently the track icons (default theme) are made to go over the color of the tcp_bg.png and mcp_bg.png (and selected too).

as I look more at these new Icon-on-the-left mock-up, I am realizing that they are defeating the purpose of track Icons for me!

and I hat that.... I use the track icon to quickly locate the track I am after. Having that icon immediately next to the arrange is a god send it means I don't have to scan past all the buttons and icons and distractions to grab the track I want (when traveling from an Item on the arrange to its TCP). It seems that I am usually going right to left in my work flow

Word.
This new track item to the left thing is annoying and all the mockups looks like: I don´t want it that way. Mostly cause of the folder system, which I like and prefer over track icon-use.
However, I can not understand to have them left sided. It´s like Talisman said. My view goes from right to left to look which track I´m on.

The folder alignment is not aligned properly on this mockup it would infact align so the track icon didn't reside inside the folder indent ,pure lazyness on my behalf .I'll do a more attractive mocup when I get a chance.

I would only suggest this as an option so those that prefer it as it is now wouldn't be upset by it...

+1 to the idea, and would like to have the OPTION of having track icons show up at the very bottom of the mixer, too.

but what about the whole quick glance to see what track we are on?
with this we have to trace past all the buttons and stuff.

I once was down. but now I am up.
but as for the track Icons showing up at the bottom of the mixer... I am still down for that!

When I search for a "track at a Glance" I look to the left at the tcp not the arrange page itself. Track numbers, Track names and colors are all located to the left , In fact as I rarely use track icons (because of issues highlighted) I often scan left for the track name... If you need more visual feedback use an Icon with more color witch stand out more instead of gray against gray as pictured.

EDIT>>>>>
Exsample

Which is eseyer to spot the Track icon on the Right or the colored track name on the Left?

In fact even with multiple colored track icons on the right you still have to scan left for the track name. If the icon was on the right you could scan them together with the track name speeding up the process .

Example Which Mixer track indicated by the mixer icon has the BD on ?

Ware were you looking for it?

Left side of the tcp..........

Were you drawn to the red box on the left?

Plus look how messy the alignment is Totally off putting .I.M.O.

(I'll try find time to demonstrait how good this could look when I get a chance..

Hears 2 more pics showing the advantage of putting track icons left
and hopefully demonstrating how easy to see they can be , notice how easy it is to reference track names with track icons.

As they are now

Moved to the left

note the step on the right above track 13 . That is the space needed to be added to keep everything looking tidy.
