Runaway, here's a PT9 session file:

http://www.adamwathan.com/protools/p...estsession.ptf

The session does contain audio regions, but I wasn't sure if when you said "no media" you meant "blank empty project" or "just upload a session file, I don't need the audio files".

Have just started adding routing conversion - eg busses first with AA/CEP & Reaper and then adding others.
And much much more.
you da man Runaway... still waiting to get the PT9 files for ya... that's the problem with people in way diff timezones, eh...

I heard mention that PT9 does OMF now without hassles... but I'll believe it when I see it. PT means, "Potential Troubles"

No not blank (as in no regions etc) - just one of your 'normal' session files (ptf) but dont send me any of the audio files that belong with it. Just the ptf file.

Thanks

The basic version is just that - it has no limits as far as non PT & non omf related session. The basic version has extremely limited access to pt (v5) (import/export) & omf import - more like a demo for these formats. This version has no access to PT7 & PT8 and no access to OMF export.

The enhanced version has no limits in any way - other than user ability ;-)

Essentially both PT & OMF are and have been really hard and intense work chewing up a significant amount of our resources so rather than those that dont need these formats having to pay for the priveledge we have two versions.

Unfortunately in your case you need the enhanced version.

If you want to send me a test omf (via the aatranslator website) I'd be happy to convert it to reaper for you so you can judge the value.

Edit: Did you try the reaper plugin?

well crap... having trouble getting my 'friends' to make the PT9 projects for me.... pisses me off since I've given them so much in the past...

...anyway, maybe they will come thru yet... but I see Adam and Gwok seem able and willing to get you what you need in the meantime... reaper peepers are so good!

Yes they certainly are!

I must have some coffee than I'll check out Adam's ptf. I'm really hoping that our generic PTF 'de-obfuscator' will come through with the goods ;-)

Back soon.

Thanks Adam - I almost missed this post.

This should be a very good start - get back to you soon - hopefully with good news.

Edit : I think these posts are out of sync?
Edit 2: Currently sidetracked on a quick big paying fix - hope to have a look at this before I go to the Eagles concert tonight ;-)

Just doing my obligatory post of "thanks", Runaway.

Audition 3 and Reaper are my main combo. They compliment each other for what I need so well, it always makes me a bit giddy. Thanks for doin' the work you do

I understand the use of those two words in the same sentence but unsure in this context.

AAT runs fine under the likes of Wine and others but if you only have a couple to convert I'm cool to help you with those.

Really appreciate the post.

You will be pleased to know we have a few more tricks up our sleeve regarding Reaper/AA interaction. We are currently working on adding more functionality like routing and more (it may even make the next release).

Even when it doesn't seem like it we are toiling away on something new all the time ;-)

Sorry - been real busy.

Just had a look at the PT9 file that AdamWathan kindly supplied.
I'm a little embarrassed to say that Ron's generic 'de-obfuscator' took a poofteenth of a second to sort it out and a with couple of tweaks (like change 8 to 9) and well....

The PT9 test session contains the following:-

44.1k, 30fps, 172 bpm, 35 tracks, 20 clips & 20 files

Source Table Entries: 20
1 "1 Vox1.wav" AUDIO
2 "10 Kick.L.wav" AUDIO
3 "10 Kick.R.wav" AUDIO
4 "11 Snare.L.wav" AUDIO
5 "11 Snare.R.wav" AUDIO
6 "T1.L.wav" AUDIO
7 "T1.R.wav" AUDIO
8 "T2.L.wav" AUDIO
9 "T2.R.wav" AUDIO
10 "14 OH L.wav" AUDIO
11 "15 OH R.wav" AUDIO
12 "2 Vox2.wav" AUDIO
13 "3 Brendan Vox1.wav" AUDIO
14 "4 Brendan Vox2.wav" AUDIO
15 "5 Bridge Vox1.wav" AUDIO
16 "6 Bridge Vox2.wav" AUDIO
17 "7 5150 L.wav" AUDIO
18 "8 5150 R.wav" AUDIO
19 "9 Bass.L.wav" AUDIO
20 "9 Bass.R.wav" AUDIO

I've adjusted the code to cater for PT v9 files - some testing obviously has to be done but a no brainer really.

Thanks all especially AdamWathan.

PS AdamWathan if you want to pm me I'm happy to send you an RPP (I can never seem to pm anyone on this forum but its probably just me)

Just for you - next version will have both item/clip groups and Aux/Bus routing converted between Reaper & AA and back again. Will implement for others as we get to them ;-)

No problem! I don't need an RPP, that's just a "test session" I made to screw around with PT9, the real session was done in Reaper in the first place Hehe... Thanks for the offer though and excited for where this goes, good work man!

Thanks mate - we are so close and yet there always seems to be so many more things to do.

My feelings at present are just to put out a release which covers PT7, PT8 & PT9 as well as OMF export which will work for most and then fix the odd ones which fall out.

Keep you informed.

good idea on the new rlz Mike... also did send you a PM just now to test if your PM's are working or not. I use it often and it works OK here... I even get email notification of new ones... sadly that normally comes way after the pm's... hahaha

here's a pic of a PT8 to Reaper conversion

<script src='http://img17.**************/shareable/?i=screenshot20101204at114.png&p=tl' type='text/javascript'></script><noscript></noscript>

I must say, I'm pretty freakin impressed, this tune had somethin like 400 audio files, and 1400 edits, it's all there with automation too!

added to that, the process of converting is quite simple - (and accurate!) which really makes inter-daw projects much more realistic as a common task!

good stuff!

Version 4.0 at one point was finalised but somehow we just didn’t know when to stop adding features and fixing bugs.
Though I suspect that the pain in my head should have given some indication.

Well all this fun must come to an end and somehow get this version out to you so we decided that Xmas eve will be that date!

Even right up to the date we will still be adding features and carrying out testing and yes even updating documentation but no matter what we will get version 4.0 out on Xmas eve.

Version 4.0 contains many small and large improvements but the highlights are:
* Import ProTools session files (ptf) for versions 7, 8 & 9
* Ron Novy's eagerly sought OMF export function now included. AAT will export OMF as either embedded or reference and will cater for both aif & wav media.
* Import Samplitude VIP session files
* Improved fade type conversions across most formats
* We have also added improved conversions between Reaper, Samplitude & Audition. Specifically we now convert routing (bus/aux), clip groups and fade types.
We will add this functionality to other formats in subsequent releases.

Registered users will be contacted on Xmas eve.

Default AATranslator Version 4.0 Now Available

Well I did say that we would get this beast out on Xmas eve and while it is nearly 4 hours into my Xmas day its still Xmas eve somewhere in the world and that’s my excuse.

Again an amazing job Michael and the crew ! I'll have lot of PT8 sessions to convert soon, I'll let you know if it's doing good.

I have already a question : how does the V4 manage the stereo tracks of a PT8 session to a reaper session ?

Thanks again for your work, and merry Xmas

At 4.30am on xmas day you couldn't have picked an easier question? LOL

As I recall internally PT treats stereo files as seperate split mono files and so in these early stages it was easier to deal with them as such.

We do however give an option to rejoin the split mono files after conversion. Now mind you in this version we have not placed these 'rejoined' stero files back in the session but they could easily be referenced by the user.

Is this ideal? Probably not but rather than delay this release solving that issue more effectively I took the easy way out.

We will be improving this area in subsequent releases as we get access to more PT8 & 9 session files.

Damn I hear Santa - I'm off to bed ;-)

Just posted v4.0.0.2 which corrects a number of things:-

* Fixed MP3 files reporting offline when converting to Reaper (v4.0.0.1)
* Fixed mono PT tracks reporting as stereo tracks in PT8 & PT9 (v4.0.0.1)
* Fixed problem with the odd fade being interpreted as a region/clip in mac PT8 & 9 sessions (v4.0.0.2)

Enjoy!

Keep checking that site for the next few days as we will be making more PTF related modifications - mainly to do with mac PTF files (eg converting sd2 to wav, better fade conversion, etc)

macs AND pt - it really doesn't get any worse :-(

Default Macs, PT & elastic audio

Macs, PT & elastic audio – is there no end to the havoc they can cause?

For those with access to the beta site there is another beta posted which should now properly cater for track automation (specifically pan & mute – gain auto was fine) no matter if it is from ProTools (7,8 or 9) from a mac or pc and even if it uses elastic audio

Sigh....

A bit more about this. lot's of coding & testing is going into reading ptf files made on a Mac where the Mac/PC compatibility option has not be used. Converting sd2 to wave was always part of our reading of PT5 files & this now extends to ptf files too. That's the easy bit;-)

What is tricky is the nasty thing that can happen if using Mac OS9 say that though the session may refer to xxx.sd2 files some of the actual files don't have any file extension. Also there can be charachters in file names that are not compatible to Pc's.

To be fair to Avid/Digi they do recommend wav files should be used & the only reason they still support sd2 on Mac's is so users can open old sessions.

More good news is that we appear to have finally sorted out the pathnames used in a ptf along with a few other annoying things.

Another beta has been posted and we will let all registered users know when we issue another update.

We haven't been idle - lots of work done improving both our PTF imports and our OMF export - hope to have another release ready soon.

Thanks goes to the those like Neil Wilkes, Hopi and others who have offered constructive suggestions and reported bugs.
