Default Selected track control panel background

Hi all,

I'm a relatively (12 months) new user of Reaper.. Isn't it Great!

I have been able to work through all my needs and quieries with the user guide and this forum, however....

Such a simple thing as the 'Selected Track Control Panel Background Colour' ('scuse the spelling - I'm Australian.) is not bending to my desires.

I really like the Default theme with all it's shades of grey, I would however change the colour of the currently selected track and Media Item to something obvious and quite different. This I have done easily with the theme editor as far as the Media Item is concerned. I am having no luck with the Selected Track.

Is there something that I am missing with this seemingly trivial matter?

Cheers, Mikey Floyd.

you won't find that part in the pref's theme editor

what you can do is use the SWS extensions and their colors to color you tcp panels along with setting your prefs to allow those colors to color the panels, not just the trak name...

and\or you can get instide the png files that make up the theme and the two for track panels in Photoshop [or whatever] and change the basic colors there and resave the pngs.

Thanks Hopi,

I trawled around with the SWS extensions for a while without much joy. The whole png file thing is new to me so I'll have to spend a bit of time with it.

I wonder what the 'Selected track control panel background' and same but Únselected' items in the preferences theme editor refer to.

I take it also that it is understood that I don't simply want the change the colour of the currently selected track. I would like the selected track to be a definable colour. That when a new track is selected, it takes on this colour but only for the time that it is selected.... yeah?

I have the same kind of problem... and it seems most Theme creators don't like to make the selected track very visible...

Hi

Did you find the way to change the color background of the selected track ?
it appears to be the tcp_bgsel.png file !

but i don't know how it blends if the track background is colored.

OHhoo ! THis is definitely inspiring

I was trying some stuff from my self for colored background

I did this
•A subtle shadow in the bottom left of non selected tracks (in Track Panel and Mixer Panel). => selected tracks cannot be very bright (because of the color blending mode) so i put the non selected track darker
•Other thing : the selected track keep the same colored while selected
• selected tracks have a very brighter number than non-selected ones

Not very obvious, i have probably to darken the TCP a bit more, but well... :P
Just a beta test.

UPDATE with Green Tracks (click to see the animation)

Your theme is very good i like the colors of the metters, too bad i didn't find it earlier
But green colored tracks doesn't appear very well when selected.

The solution could be to not use green tracks. But... i like green tracks ^^

Anyway, that orange border is definitely a good idead

oh no I did not understand that... well because of how reaper uses colors for tracks that would be a problem... meaning you can't have it become a new total color when selected... you can have color of the track become brighter or darker... or in the theme below I have pointed out to you, you can have an outline show up on all selected tracks... for me that makes them easy to spot [unless the trk color is the same as the outline color]

One could make outline color 100% white which is often an eye catcher...

one could also make some other not so kewl things happen by violating the 'special pink' rules with the outline color... but then the results will change with the sizing of the tcp or mcp tracks...

Now ReNo has a mod of the default where a selected track shows a yellow square at the right side of the track... that also is a good way to see what is selected.

100% white doesn't work with colored background =/

HI

Here is my custom (walter and textures) current test theme (based on Default Analog 1.8) to highlight selected tracks backgrounds. It is designed for people who like their tracks with colors.

The track index is not very pretty but readable in every situation ! (grey background on selected tracks made the track index readable no matter the color of the track)
The default background is completely desaturated to not interfere with custom colors. It is also darker and with shadow in order to make the selection really clear (it becomes flat and lighter).

What do you think ?

It looks great! Nevertheless, not for me. I cannot stand that rainbow. I'm more into neutral grayish themes. I want those colors just for the track labels. It looks so cool anyway. Great job.
